With the ubiquity of Activision’sCall of Dutyfranchise in the video game marketplace, it may sometimes be easy to forget that the events depicted are based on real-world combat with actual consequences. The Call of Duty Endowment started by Activision to help veterans find work once they’ve returned home is an excellent use of the series' platform, especially with store bundles like theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare"Fearless Pack" appearing in-game for players to donate.
This bundle includes 10 customizations for players that have been designed with Medal of Honor Recipient Captain Florent “Flo” Groberg according to the Activision Games Blog, including a “Venerated Mil-Sim” Operator Skin, two calling cards, and a Legendary blueprint for the M4A1 assault rifle. Activision announced thatModern Warfare’s “For the Cause” rifle blueprint is engraved with the date of the event that led to Captain Groberg receiving his Medal of Honor, but a Reddit user pointed out another “neat” easter egg message.

Just underneath the scope attached to the top of the rifle, the phrase “let’s get veterans back to work” is engraved on the M4A1. In fact the player’s close-up shot of the new blueprint shows details such as “Call of Duty Endowment” engraved on the side and a legible “laser radiation” caution sticker attached to the scope.
ThoughModern Warfareand its battle royale companionWarzonereceive weapons and skins fairly often, recently including the highly-anticipated"Ghost Pack Contingency" bundle, the care put into the Fearless Pack is apparent. The fact that all proceeds it raises will go to a good cause is also more than enough reason for players to at least consider looking into it.
There were 284,000 unemployed veterans in the United States in 2019 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Veteran concerns have been addressed by a number of video game companies, like whenXbox matched player donations to OSDin a drive meant to support veteran mental health efforts earlier this year.
Activision and Infinity Ward putting their hats in the ring to benefit the fight against veteran unemployment is undoubtedly admirable, especially in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. ThoughModern Warfarehas come under fire for itsincreasingly huge file size, it’s nice to see some of that new content going toward a good cause.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
