It is already known that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff will play an integral role inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Fans last saw her in the Disney Plus seriesWandaVision, as she struggled with loss and created the fictional town of Westview. Marvel Studios has now released a new featurette titled “Wanda Returns” that spotlights the connection between the two projects from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The trailers forDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessreveal that Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular character finds Wanda in the isolated wilderness that she chose to reside in atthe end ofWandaVision. It almost seems like things pick up where the Disney Plus series left off. The connection seems obvious, and now Marvel Studios is only further confirming it with their latest featurette.

The newly releasedDoctor Strange 2featurette begins with the most iconic dialogue fromWandaVision, with Paul Bettany’s Vision saying, “What is grief, if not love persevering?” The scene that follows is reminiscent of the Scarlet Witch reading through the Darkhold as part of thepost-credits scene inWandaVision. That scene is what set the wheels in motion toward the launch of the Multiverse, which has now become the most important factor in Phase 4 of the MCU.
The featurette includes some never before seen footage of Olsen’s Wanda from the upcoming film. She is seen returning to Westview, and even meeting her twin boys Billy and Tommy. In one of the previously releasedDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesstrailers, Wanda is heard referring to recurring nightmares. These scenes could potentially be a dream sequence, or perhaps just another Wanda variant. “We wanted to satisfy theWandaVisionfans, and take them to the next level with a character they love,” director Sam Raimi is heard saying in the featurette, which confirms a direct connection between the two big projects.
Apart from focusing on the connection between the two projects, the featurette also highlights how the Multiverse comes into play. Fans will be meetingmultiple variants of Scarlet Witchand Doctor Strange. It features some magnificent fight scenes involving both characters, appearing in varying avatars. Wanda’s different variants include what fans are referring to as an evil Scarlet Witch. It seems like on her quest to find her sons, Wanda is willing to go to any extent, even if it means straying towards the path of evil.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesspremieres in theaters on July 29, 2025.
