After a couple weeks of relative quiet due to the holiday season, the latest weekly update forDestiny 2finally brought new content for players to check out. In addition to a new difficulty for the Sundial activity, a new exotic weapon quest also went live forthe Devil’s Ruin sidearm. The quest to earn it is fairly straightforward, though the weapon itself may be a little more complex than players originally thought.
According to a new post on theDestiny 2sub-Reddit, one player has discovered a hidden perk on the Devil’s Ruin sidearm. When looking at the new weapon, it comes with an intrinsic perk called Close the Gap, which lets the player hold the trigger to charge a laser shot. Its unique trait is known as Pyrogenesis that refills the magazine from reserves after fully charging the laser as long as the player has less than 15 rounds in the magazine.

However, players have started to discovered that the Pyrogenesis perk also has another hidden bonus associated with it. The trick to maximizing the potency of this gun is releasing the charged laser right when it hits maximum charge. If done correctly, the laser takes on a visually brighter look as well as being larger in general. This also automatically triggers Pyrogenesis and outputs 15 rounds of damage while also adding another 15 rounds into the magazine from reserves. What this means is that after the laser fires, 15 rounds will automatically be loaded and the gun won’t need to be reloaded first. If done correctly, the ammo counter will show 30 when the laser fires and go back down to 15 right after.
Pulling this off does require a bit of skill as the timing to pull this off is very narrow. It’s worth noting that the super laser doesn’t change its properties such as increasing the range or damage. For now, players will have a couple weeks to master this timing beforethe next exotic weapon questbecomes available.
As this exotic is added, Bungie has removed another. Earlier this week, players started to discover a bug related to the exotic Titan gauntlets, Wormgod Caress. Essentially, players could makethe added Burning Fists damage buff permanentby quickly swapping out the armor and then putting it back in. It removes the timer, but leaves the damage bonus in place. To fix the problem, the exotic item has been disabled for the time being until a fix can be implemented.
