Belgian artist Pierre “Peyo” Culliford’sThe Smurfsfocuses on the eponymous race of small, blue, humanoid creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest. While the series started out as a comic in Culliford’s home country, it has since expanded to other forms of media, such as TV, movies, and even video games. The next game entry in the franchise has just been announced, and it will be published by French companyMicroids.
Ocellus Services, a video game developer also based in France, has just released the first trailer forThe Smurfs: Dreams, its upcoming 3D cooperative platformer for the PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S machines that will launch in 2024. Following the reveal, some gamers said thatThe Smurfs - Dreamswas similar toSackboy: A Big Adventure, which has been considered to be one of thebest PS4 and PS5 games with multiplayer.
The Smurfs: Dreamswill focus on the series' iconic blue heroes as they try to put an end to a new evil scheme devised by the franchise’s main antagonist, Gargamel. The reoccurring villain was featured in the two live-actionThe Smurfsfilms produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation. Since appearing in those, Gargamel has been recognized as one of thestrongest evil wizards in movies, joining the likes of Saruman from Peter Jackson’sThe Lord of the Ringsfilm trilogy, as well as theWarcraftmovie adaptation’s Medivh.

Microids, meanwhile, has handled a long list of releases, includingThe Smurfs - Mission Vileaf, a platformer that launched in 2021.
