Despite the massive success ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, players have been keen to share their criticism of the game, and it appears to be annoying 100 Thieves founder and veteranCall of Dutyprofessional player Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag. Haag’s career in esports has seemingly run parallel withCall of Duty’s explosion in popularityas he started his professional career in 2008, coinciding with the release ofCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. While his days as a professional player are now behind him, he isn’t shy about sharing his opinion and was keen to share his thoughts about the criticism againstCall of Duty’s newest game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is the sequel to 2019’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfarereboot, picking up three years after the events of the game’s campaign. The sequel’s campaign sees Captain Price and Task Force 141 join up with Mexican Special Forces and an American PMC to investigate and halt a potential terrorist plot targeting the West with the aid of a notorious Mexican drug cartel. On the multiplayer side, players have plenty to choose from between the 6v6 Core Map modes, the bigger 32v32 Battle Map modes, and the launch ofWarzone 2.

As mentioned above,player criticism ofModern Warfare 2has been consistent since the game was released in late October 2022, ranging from problems with the overall UI to killstreaks and unlocks. The near-constant criticism appeared to strike a nerve with Haag, who spoke about his issues with the criticism while streamingWarzone 2on Twitch. He referenced “irrationally ignorant” comments on a clip fromThe CouRage and Nadeshot Showwhere they spoke aboutModern Warfare 2and how he was annoyed, despite feeling he put together a “compelling argument” in favor of the game.
Haag argues the apparenthate againstModern Warfare 2, and every newCall of Dutytitle, is largely a waste of time given how little the core foundations of the series have changed over the years. He seemingly takes it a step further, implying it is also a waste of time to get upset over problems at launch since most players know there will be issues and additional content added shortly after release. Haag’s stance isn’t unfounded, either, given how maintenance and day-one patches have become the norm across the video game industry in recent years.
Given how outspoken Haag has been over his career, some players may not be surprised about some of his thoughts on theModern Warfare 2playerbase and the potential blowback he could face. He found himself in hot water earlier in August 2022 after 100 Thieves was accused of “predatory practices” bycontent creators The Mobnearly a year after being dropped by 100 Thieves, an accusation Haag appeared to take personally when addressing it on streams. It is unlikely these newest comments will land him in the same hot water, though it wouldn’t be surprising to see some in theCall of Dutycommunity take aim at Haag online.
