The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, as ridiculous as the name is, takes itself seriously. It’snot quite a parodyand there are plenty of jokes in it but they are more subtle. At its core, the show is about a grieving mother, Anna, unable to get her life together following the death of her daughter, Elizabeth.

Anna from The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window

That’s where the window comes into play. Instead of TV, she gets invested in people watching and believes she witnesses murder one night. Was she imagining things, or is there a big cover-up going on? In this discussion ofThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window’smany plot threads, there will be spoilers.

8Why Did The Gravestone Change?

When Elizabeth’s gravestone is first shown inThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, it says something along the lines of how love could make someone eternal. The stone changes several times throughout the show for seemingly no reason. The best quote might be “There is no I in Heaven”which is funny. The other quotes could be taken as jokes too. While funny, it still doesn’t explain how or why they change. Are they even changing at all or is the show messaging the viewer secret hints?

7What Happened To Rex?

After Rex and Anna had their swinging night together, he is taken away quickly in the morning by the police. They think he killed Lisa. Later in the episode, Detective Lane tells Anna that Rex has been released. That’s when she takes Anna into custody instead. What happens to Rex after this is a mystery. He doesn’t appear again or even texts Anna. Rex is dropped from the show as if he isn’t tied to all of this.

6How Was Anna Surviving For Three Years Without Work?

The show opens up three years after Elizabeth dies. Anna is still in shock. She is single, living in a giant house, and refuses to talk to friends. She doesn’t even go to work. Apparently, all she does is drink. After a while, that has to get boring, depression or not.

The more important question is how was she able to survive for three years without working? She could have a huge bank account as an artist. Douglas might be paying her too. Whatever the case may be, three years away from work could sound great to any viewer.

5Did Anna Imagine Carol In The Liquor Store?

One of the elementsThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Windowtries to highlight as quickly as possible is that Anna is an unreliable narrator. Is she imagining things or is she actually seeing and doing things? For example, she imagines Neil and her having aromantic make-out session. She also imagines running Lisa over with her car.

What about Carol in the liquor store? What Carol says to the other lady could be interpreted as how Anna thinks other people talk about her behind her back. Carol denies saying these things so either she is lying or Anna was hallucinating.

4Massacre Mike’s Murder Of Elizabeth

The story behind Elizabeth’s death is treated as a mystery for a good portion of the show. Anna opens up to her therapist about it eventually. As soon as she says the name Massacre Mike, viewers may have tuned out. His name and the way Elizabeth dies sound too over-the-top to be real. How could this murderer get free of his handcuffs and have enough time to both kill and eat Elizabeth before anyone noticed? Why was it even okay to bring a child into prison? The backstory is too dark that it almost comesacross as funnyor like another lie upon Anna.

3How Did Buell Move Around Unnoticed?

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Windowparodies a lot ofdifferent horror tropesand actual movies. For example, Buell living in Anna’s house could be a parody of the Gary Busey film, Hider in the House. Buell has pure intentions for staying there though and isn’t trying to play psychological mind games with Anna.

Buell is a big dude. There is no way he could move around the house with Anna only hearing a few footsteps here and there. Anna should have noticed something earlier too like how Buell’s car never leaves.

2Emma’s Ninja Abilities

The biggest twist inThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Windowis that Emma was the murderer all along. She isa slasher queenthat is apparently way stronger than any child her age has any right to be. She’s smart too, engineering little traps like for her mom and teacher. The idea that no one could overpower her until Anna is a bit ridiculous. Emma does have a knife, but Anna should have been able to knock her out much faster. Also never answered, did Emma paint that portrait and hide it in Anna’s attic? If so, it is unnaturally good.

1What Happened To Glenn Close?

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window ends on a cliffhanger with Anna flying in a plane to visit Sloane in New York City. On her flight, she sits next to Glenn Close, who is credited as the woman in seat 2A. It’s just easier to call her Glenn Close. Now, is Anna hallucinating again or is thereanother mystery afoot?

Also, is the entire ending even real? Everything is wrapped up in a bow too neatly. Anna is not convicted of murder. She gets back together with Douglas and has another baby. Even Carol apologizes. It’s all too good to be true. If there is a season two, the biggest twist of all would be to reveal nothing had happened.
