Summary

A reliableMortal Kombat 1leaker is hinting that another character from the classic 3D era could be featured as a Kameo fighter: the infamous hero Shujinko. Many members ofMortal Kombat 1’s base roster have already been revealed, with plenty of warriors from the later Midway entries making their return in Liu Kang’s rebooted timeline. This weekend’s EVO 2023 sawthe confirmation of fan-favorite Reptilein both his human and lizard forms, as well as the reformed demon Ashrah and Chaosrealm-born anarchist Havik.

Of course,Mortal Kombat 1’s primary roster is only a portion of the options players will have in NetherRelam’s latest fighting game extravaganza. There will also be a secondary line-up of Kameo fighters, supporting characters that can assist the player with combo attacks in battle. This supplementary roster consists ofclassic versions ofMortal Kombatcharacters, even ones that might not necessarily factor intoMortal Kombat 1’s main storyline.

Reddit user and noteworthyMortal Kombat 1leaker bac736 claims to have seen an image of Shujinko as one of the final Kamoe fighters in the game, in the form of a silhouette with a question mark in front of it. They note that they don’t have anything else to go on at the moment and can’t name their source due to potential legal trouble - but it is worth pointing out that they have correctly predictedMortal Kombat 1characters like Darrius, Sektor, and Cyrax before their confirmation. Furthermore, bac736 has shown the mods at r/MortalKombat this image, and they seem to agree that it looks authentic.

Shujinko made his first appearance in 2004’sMortal Kombat: Deceptionas the new main protagonist following Liu Kang’s death in the previous game. However, he wasonly playable inDeception’s Konquest mode. Additionally, he is tricked into summoning the Dragon King Onaga, who he was then tasked with defeating in the mode’s climax. Shujinko later appeared inMortal Kombat: Armageddonas an elderly man wracked with guilt over his role in Onaga’s return, but this would be the last time players saw him in a playable capacity. He made one final cameo appearance during Cassie Cage’s ladder ending inMortal Kombat X.

Just like the 2000s-eraMortal Kombatgames he starred in, Shujinko was met with an icy reception from fans at first for replacing belovedMortal Kombat 1heroes like Liu Kang and Raiden - but would start to be looked at more fondly as the years went on. The latest hints of him returning as a Kameo fighter inMortal Kombat 1should be taken with a grain of salt for now, but there is a chance Shujinko could make an appearance during the Kombat Kast livestream said to be taking place later this week.
