A new trailer fromMonster Hunter’s official YouTube channel has revealed some of the new monsters, locales, and story content inMonster Hunter Rise’s upcomingSunbreakexpansion. The trailer also confirms the return of a notorious foe from 2019’sMonster Hunter World: Icebornethat will arrive in the near future.

Monster Hunter Riseis the latest entry in Capcom’s extensive series of team-based action RPGs that has been ongoing since 2004. Starting with the original PS2 gameMonster Hunter, the series has centered around online co-op gameplay where players work together to defeat powerful monsters using equipment crafted from defeated enemies. WhileMonster Huntergames feature offline single-player gameplay, the best rewards and most difficult monsters are found through online participation. The franchise hosts an enormous fanbase and has had spinoffs in various media including an anime series, manga, card game, and even aMonster Hunterfeature filmstarringResident Evil’s Milla Jovovich.

The new trailer forSunbreakis an action-packed three-minute-long showcase of the upcoming expansion’s roster of deadly creatures, mostly composed of in-game footage of players fighting the monsters throughoutSunbreak’s various locales in Elgado. Sunken ruins, icy mountain cliffsides, gloomy forests, and volcanic pits are a few of the environments shown in the trailer, highlighting the expansion’s impressive visual variety. Many of the monsters on display are particularly fantasy-oriented, breathing fire or shooting jets of brightly colored energy beams. Creature designs range from the typical dinosaur-like monsters to icy beasts, large insectoid monsters, and several airborne opponents.

While the trailer does feature some cutscene footage from the new story content, the arrangement is vague enough that the trailer certainly won’t spoil much about the expansion’s story developments. The end of the trailer is of particular interest, as it covers some ofMonster Hunter Rise’s future plans. Three Title Updates are revealed for August, Fall, and Winter, which will introduce several new monster species and the Forlorn Arena locale. Seething Bazelgeuse, a notorious enemy introduced duringIceborneis slated to arrive inMonster Hunter Riselater in August. Seething Bazelgeuse is a large flying wyvern with explosive scales and was the source of some impressive-looking equipment.

TheSunbreakexpansion is arriving this weekalong with a major Title Update that will affect allMonster Hunter Riseplayers. The free update will be 10 to 20 GB in size depending on the platform. Players wishing to begin playingSunbreakcontent must have completed the seven-star hub quest Serpent Goddess of Thunder.
