With the renewed and upgraded version ofCall of Duty: Warzoneset to launch very soon, players that enjoy regularCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2multiplayer are disappointed with the lack of support the mode is getting as part of Season 1 content. A recent official blog post focused primarily on the new game modes more than core gameplay systems, and not everyone is happy about this development.

Namely,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is going to host a glut of unique game modes after November 16, which marks the release of Season 1. On top of the currently available campaign, multiplayer, and cooperative spec-ops modes, players are also getting access toWarzone 2.0and the long-awaited DMZ, which is supposed to be anEscape From Tarkovequivalent. Though a massive content drop in its own right, this development does not thrill fans of the core multiplayer mode.

Infinity Ward’s latestblog post confirmed the launch time ofWarzone 2and also detailed a number of important new features coming toModern Warfare 2in general. Fans of regular multiplayer, however, have taken to Reddit to voice their displeasure with how the core modes are being treated. Namely, Infinity Ward announced the return of Shoothouse and Shipment maps during the course of Season 1, with these levels being the only new bit of exclusive multiplayer content that’s being released. TheRealPdGaming’s infographic compared this batch of content with what previous games' respective Season 1 offerings provided, and it doesn’t fare all too well.

As exciting as theimminent release of DMZ mode inWarzone 2might be on its own, this “narrative-focused extraction mode” is unlikely to be comparable to the extremely fast-paced regular multiplayer clashes. Some players have taken this idea to the extreme, with Reddit user Problematique saying that “the success ofWarzoneand BR in general has been a disaster for classic multiplayer shooters.” The disappointment is fairly understandable, as not only is the baselineModern Warfare 2multiplayer only getting two legacy maps for the time being, but one of them will be launched sometime later during Season 1 rather than coming out immediately.

Moreover,Modern Warfare 2’s Valderas Museum map is missingstill, with no word on if and when it might be getting relaunched as part of the game’s basic map roster. Something similar happened to the Crown Raceway map, too, with Infinity Ward having to rework significant bits of it, causing it to miss the beta testing window entirely. Whereas Crown Raceway ended up getting released in the end, Valderas Museum is still up in the air at this time.

On top of content-related problems,Modern Warfare 2players criticized certain missing featuresas well. For example, the game currently has no Barracks equivalent to unlock emblems and calling cards, there’s no way to save custom weapon blueprints, and there aren’t any alternative sight crosshairs, all of which were readily available in 2019’sModern Warfare. There isn’t any news on whether most of these features will be released in the future.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
