Marvel has featured its fair share of giant-sized characters — both literally and figuratively — over the years. That isn’t stopping any time soon, with the recent rise in popularity of Adam Warlock, whose debut is now confirmed for the big screen.

But before people get too impatient waiting forGuardians Of The GalaxyVol 3, there are some key things about Warlock that audiences should know — whether these facts come into play in theMarvel Cinematic Universe, or not. Though he’s made quite the appearance inMarvel’sGuardians Of The Galaxyas a glowing gold God-like figure, here are a few things fans should know about the character.

10He Wasn’t Actually Born, He Was Created

When a group of mad scientists get together and work very hard, a baby is born — well, sort of.Adam Warlock’s creation is more akin to that of Frankenstein’s Monster than usual conception.

Some time ago, a group of researchers under the name of “The Enclave” decided to try and create the perfect human being. This resulted in Warlock’s formation, though at that point in existence, he was referred to simply as “Him.” Unfortunately, the Enclave’s creation was out of control and escaped quickly. After some unsavoury shenanigans, Warlock retreated to a cocoon where he remained until his rebirth.

9His Original Mission Was To Stop Man-Beast

Adam Warlock, AKA “Him,” was created to be part of an army. After his escape, however, he got into a tangle with Thor, and retreated to his cocoon to hide. Eventually, he was found and recruited to the cause of the Counter-Earth: an idyllic, good world that was created by the High Evolutionary researcher.

Unfortunately, this version of Earth was already tainted. A renegade creature named Man-Beast had introduced evil, and unleashed an almost biblical plague of wrongdoings unto the planet. Warlock went to deal with this to stop the planet from being destroyed, and vanquished Man-Beast.

8He Was Actually A Guardian Of The Galaxy

Marvel’scinematic universe has given fans a rather skewed version the comics’Guardians Of The Galaxy,as the original team didn’t have any of the five familiar faces. In the original material, Adam Warlock gave his blessing and supported the formation of the group as the universe was at risk, and needed the help.

After a quick and eventful romp around Knowhere in the search for Skrulls, Warlock teamed up with Drax and Gamora. He then stuck around with the Guardians to fight some space crime for a while.

7The Soul Stone

Adam Warlock is possibly the strongest Marvel superhero that most people haven’t even heard of. There’s only a handful of beings that can safely wield any of the Infinity Stones, and Warlock is one of them — perhaps due to the Soul Stone that resided in his creator’s possession at the time that he was created.

The Soul Stone was then given to Warlock to aid him in his duties, to help turn evil forms back to good. Soon after, Adam discovered that the Stone was only one of six, not a singular entity. He then worked to hide it from the Mad Titan, Thanos.

6Infinity Gauntlet & Thanos

Adam Warlock and Thanos have had a tumultuous relationship. The first instance of their conflict occurred when Adam joined the Avengers to stop Thanos from collecting all of the Infinity Stones, and ultimately turned Thanosintostone to end him. Thanos then gets resurrected and collects the Stones again, and Warlock is convinced to aid in his defeat again.

Thanos, at some point, finds Warlock’s soul in Death’s Domain, which accompanies him back to the land of the living. The soul gains a human form and follows Thanos for a few journies. These are only two examples of the many encounters that the two characters had — most of which have not been friendly.

5He Is Incredibly Powerful

Not only can Adam Warlock wield the Soul Stone, but he is also very powerful on his own. Due to his artificial creation, he possesses incredible speed, strength, reflexes, and stamina. But his powers do not end with human ones.

Adam’s powers include matter manipulation and soul manipulation. He can use cosmic energy, along with the completed Infinity Gauntlet. Plus, if this doesn’t best his opponents and he does fall in battle, his “essence” will be restored in his cocoon, and he will be remade. Essentially, he’s unkillable.

4Adam Warlock Isn’t His First Name

Adam Warloc’s creators either did not want, or care, to give him an actual name, and so he was simply referred to as “him.” This could also reflect their attempt at creating simply the perfect human, instead of a specific personality.

It wasn’t until a while later (after recovering in his cocoon from a brutal fight with Thor) that Warlock was named. The High Evolutionary found him, and recruited him, and bestowed upon him the name of Warlock. This is also when he was given the Soul Gem.

3He Has A Lot Of Other Personifications

Him, or Adam Warlock, is a man of many names and personas. The best-documented is his “dark self,” Magus. This evil and corrupt version of himself was born of timeline manipulation, which Warlock performed to rid himself of evil. This ended up backfiring as it created Magus, who returned time and time again to bane Warlock.

Warlock also became The Living Tribunal, in Earth-19141, serving as a replacement. He also has a female replicant — created in the same way — named Kismet, Her, Ayesha, and Paragon. What’s in a name, anyway?

2He’s Kind Of A Messiah

As mentioned before, Adam can restore himself in his cocoon — this power warrents a deeper look. Since his original creation, he has been able to craft a cocoon around himself. This protects him and restores him from the brink of death.

The cocoon also restores his body if he does literally die, too. This means that he shall rise again, and again, and again. Basically, Adam Warlock is immortal — and that’s not even getting into the fact his soul decided to bring itself back to the world of the living.
