It’s been over a decade now since the release ofLuigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, but Nintendo has revealed in its latest Direct event that the sequel will be receiving a visually-enhanced version for the Nintendo Switch family of consoles. The recent Nintendo Direct made a plethora of announcements certain to please not only fans of theLuigi’s Mansionseries of games, but also fans of theSuper Mariofranchise as a whole.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, known asLuigi’s Mansion 2in other territories, was originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. A sequel to Luigi’s first haunted adventure that was released in 2001,Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moonoffers more secrets to discoverand ghosts to capture in the form of a spooky yet lighthearted action-adventure experience. Though these older titles are still held dear by many Nintendo fans today, the massively-popularLuigi’s Mansion 3has since taken the spotlight by introducing both a co-op campaign and a series of multiplayer mini-games that allow fans to compete against each other.

With theNintendo eShop service now permanently closed for the 3DS and Wii U consoles, fans of these previous-generation pieces of Nintendo hardware are finding it hard to get their hands on some of these older titles. Much to the surprise of manyLuigi’s Mansionfans, Nintendo revealed in its latest Direct conference that a “visually-enhanced version” ofLuigi’s Mansion: Dark Moonis currently in development, and is set to release for the Nintendo Switch sometime next year. Though little was said about the project and no exact release date was provided, fans of theLuigi’s Mansionseries can look forward to reliving this nostalgic single-player campaign on more modern hardware.

The visually-enhanced Switch version forLuigi’s Mansion: Dark Moonisn’t the only remake that was announced during this month’s Nintendo Direct event however, with aremake ofSuper Mario RPGalso revealed at the presentationand confirmed to be arriving on the Nintendo Switch next year as well. Along with several new tracks and returning characters revealed to be coming in the next Wave ofMario Kart 8DLC, it’s safe to say that June’s Nintendo Direct had a lot in store for fans of theSuper Mariofranchise.

As if that wasn’t enough, fans can also look forward to seeing the Mario brothers appearing in aside-scrolling platformer once again withSuper Mario Bros. Wonder, a wacky new installment to theSuper Mario Bros.series that is slated to release on the Nintendo Switch on October 20th later this year. All things considered, there’s certainly a big year ahead for Nintendo fans, particularly those with a fondness for Mario and Luigi.
