Combat inDestiny 2can bear unexpected fruits, and for one player, a short fight with a fallen Dreg ended with them walking away with three times the usual reward. The relationship between combat and loot is paramount for any looter shooter game, and for the most part,Destiny 2strikes a healthy balance between the two. However, as with any game with many moving parts, unexpected occurrences are commonplace, and sometimes the outcomes heavily favor the player, as in this case.

Initially launched in August 2017, theDestiny 2of today is a far cry from how it originally was in every aspect.Destiny 2became one of the leading names in the live-service environment with the launch ofShadowkeepexpansion in 2019.Destiny 2has launched three full-sized expansions sinceShadowkeep, and while some of those updates failed to hit the mark, the game’s stability remained largely unaffected throughout those times. The launch ofLightfallchanged that pattern, with server stability issues, bugs, and glitches rendering the game nearly unplayable for a large section of the player base. While Bungie has managed to fix quite a few ofthe significant problems inDestiny 2, the aforementioned player’s unexpected stroke of luck signifies that more work needs to be done.

A Redditor andDestiny 2player named WIDTL shared a video of their lucky gameplay on the social media website. The video starts with WIDTL loading into the Cistern zone of Nessus, which has become quite the hotspot thanks toDestiny 2’s new fishing activity. After loading in, WIDTL initially struggles to decide their preferred weapon and then runs forward to a group of fallen combatants. The fallen enemies pose little threat and are easily defeated, but not before the last Dreg unexpectedly drops three reward chests. The sight is quite amusing as the three chests are initially stacked atop each other but soon fall to the ground. WIDTL loots all three chests but receives nothing special beyond a paltry sum of 900 Glimmer.

As expected, WIDTL did not expect such an interaction to happen during regular gameplay, and the post’s title indicates this as such. Several players have commented on how other players will now flock to Nessus and try their luck with the unfortunate Dreg. Several players have coined the enemy “Greg the Dreg” as a throwback to an unkillable Dreg inDestiny. Other players in the comment section pointed out that this amusing interaction only proves thatDestiny 2needs significant attention from developersto prevent major problems down the line.

Bugs and glitches can be annoying for players and developers alike, but WIDTL’s interactions show that sometimes glitches can be rather amusing and lighthearted. Nonetheless, Bungie has promised thatDestiny 2will receive regular patches and server updates, with a lot of initial work starting with Season of the Deep’s mid-season patch.

Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
