Summary
Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros, a.k.a OB, was a significant character inLokiseason 2. However, concept art reveals the character was initially going to be a variant of Owen Wilson’s Mobius.
OB joinedLokiseason 2 and was introduced in the premiere episode. In one scene, Owen Wilson’s Mobiusintroduces Tom Hiddleston’s Lokito Quan’s OB, a quirky and energetic person who is also the Time Variance Authority’s chief engineer. OB and Mobius have known each other, but the former has been isolated from other agents, so he is overly excited to be reunited with the latter and meet new faces. OB looks innocent, fun, and loving in his green and brown coverall with glasses. However, while his appearance in the show was satisfying, his initial designs were much different.

Concept illustratorAleksi Briclotshared various concept art for Ouroboros on Instagram as he explored the character’s depth from different worlds and timelines. In one post, he portrayed OB as a variant of Mobius and modeled it after Wilson’s likeness but with a big red mustache. He retains TVA’s classic orange color scheme, giving it a vintage mechanic style. Several fans approved of it, with one saying it was an “Amazing concept” and he “loved it.” Another said it was “awesome” with a red heart emoji, and a different netizen said the digital artist “nailed the vibe of the TVA” because it looked really good. Meanwhile, one jokingly said it reminded him ofBill Murray inGhostbusters, probably due to the outfit.
In another post, Briclot pictured OB as an old postman wearing a gray polo, suspenders and ties, and loose slacks. He completed OB’s outfit by adding a cap with the TVA logo. The artist placed the character in a “quiet and almost forgotten office,” surrounded by his feline companions. Seperately, Briclot shared how he pictured OB before Quan’s casting. The concept art showed an elderly individual with a balding crown, long gray hair, and a mustache. The artist retained OB’s classic black-framed glasses and kept the orange value asthe TVA’s visual signature. Per Briclot, the long beard indicated that OB was around for a while. He had a canister in hand that was used in pneumatic tube devices.
OB’s look inLokiseason 2 was perfect, as it complimented his fun vibe. He looked cool, smart, and friendly at first glance while still keeping a hint of mystery behind his aura. His black-framed glasses even made some wonder if he was a genuine ally or a villain in disguise, which was a good thing to keep the character interesting throughout the season. After all, Ouroboros was a significant figure, andOuroboros' name was a nod to an ancient symbolthat mirrored the plot.Lokiseason 2 portrayed an eternal cycle of destruction and re-creation that the titular character attempted to change.
Costume designer Christine Wada did a great job of giving OB that look, which stayed true to TVA’s aesthetic. Wada wanted him to have a look from the ’40s or ’50s, so she went for period jumpsuits from that era. She successfully delivered a character who was a little more backdated and mechanical. Wada didn’t disappoint fans because OB’s look received a thumbs-up from the viewers.
Lokiseasons 1-2 are streaming on Disney Plus.
