Bungie released a major shot of content intoDestiny 2this week as it brought theGuardian Games seasonal event to town, largely replacing the Revelry event from previous years. During this three week span, the three classes will be involved in a friendly competition to see who can earn more medals to claim ultimate bragging rights. The update also brought with it the Grandmaster Difficulty for Nightfall strikes, something which seemingly divided the community when it was announced. Based on the latest data, Grandmaster Nightfall may not be as successful as Bungie had hoped.
According to theDestiny 2discord bot Charlemagne, the success rate for the newly added Grandmaster Nightfalls is less than 5%. On day 1, there were 13,538 attempts and only 577 successful completions. It’s a paltry number for an activity designed for hardcore players for sure, though the numbers are from two days ago and have already started to change as the community has gotten up to speed with the mechanics, limited revives, and time limit.

As of April 22, Charlemagne updated its statistics for the Insight Terminus Grandmaster Nightfall and has reported that just over 3,900 Guardians have finished it based on those who have claimed the associated triumph. While the numbers are improving, they’re still extremely low. A large reason for that may be thelack of motivation due to the limited rewardsthat the mode offers. For a lot of effort and stress, possible rewards include things like 1 ascendant shard or legendary gear. Nothing truly special as most fans wanted.
While the stats may seem dire, many have come out in support of the intentionally difficult new mode. In fact, popularDestiny 2streamer Gladdhas already admitted that the gameplay is already solid and fun, even if the rewards are not up to par and continue to turn him off from the experience in general. Considering that mostDestiny 2players likely won’t give this a shot however due to the stiff minimum requirements and difficulty, it’s unlikely that the community rallies around Grandmaster Nightfalls.
Destiny 2still boasts healthy player numbers, though community unrest remains high. Even theOlympics-style event Guardian Gameshas not been enough to quell the discussion as the seasonal event leans heavily into the bounty mechanic, something that players have been actively against for some time now. While Bungie no doubt hears the talk, feedback, and complaints from its player base, the studio has previously admitted that most changes take time and that seasonal content is largely locked in place months in advance. Any potential improvements likely won’t be coming as quickly as players want.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
