Jay Gunn, one of the creators of the classic PlayStation gameMediEvil, has recently announced that he would sell his full archive with the game’s original art and gameplay design. This is the first time that such a huge archive ofMediEvil’s history is sold, and it’s said to contain a lot of unseen material. Before anyone on Sony even dreamed of franchises likeGod of War,Uncharted, andThe Last of Us, there wasMediEvil. The first-party action-adventure game was released back in 1998 for the original PlayStation, and it was co-developed by Jay Gunn (credited as Jay Wilson in the game) who participated as a lead game designer, art director, concept artist, level designer, co-writer, and voice actor. With visuals heavily inspired by Tim Burton’sThe Nightmare Before Christmasand a lot of charm, it’s hard to say thatMediEvilwas a huge commercial success, but it was certainly a cult classic that stood the test of time. The first game of the franchise even received remakes for the PSP in 2005 and one for PS4 in 2019, whichfollowedMediEvil’s original design very closely.RELATED:PS4 Hack Lets the Console Play PS1 GamesNow, Gunn is selling a huge archive full of designs ofMediEvil, whose protagonist is one ofthe most iconic skeletons in video games. In his announcement, he affirms he does that with a “heavy heart,” but he is currently in a difficult financial situation and needs the money. According to the developer, the collection contains everything from the initial pitch up through all the stages of development. While there’s no official price for the whole collection, the developer announced that it would obviously not be cheap, as these are documents with a big sentimental and historical value.

Anyone who played the originalMediEviland its remakewould probably think that Gunn’s archives are really impressive. They contain several original sketches divided into four different books full of concept drawings, environment designs, gameplay maps, and more, including even a lot of content that did not make it into the final version ofMediEvil. Also, it has several pieces of design feedback reviews, the original outline of the plot, and even some recorded audio from the game’s dialogue.

With the remake of the original game out a few years ago and some gamers still interested in the franchise, some players may be wondering if Sony willrelease aMediEvil 2remakesoon. However, there is no indication that this will be happening any time soon, nor that Gunn would get any royalties from that, as the franchise is currently owned by Sony.

The originalMediEvilis available for PS1, with remakes available for PSP and PS4.
