Like the typical Shonen anime,Jujutsu Kaisenexemplifies strength as it showcases a host of powerful characters. One of such characters is Geto Suguru. Suguru is only properly introduced in the series' second season, as the show lays bare secrets of the past, which are the keys needed to unlock the future. Apowerful Jujutsu sorcerer, Geto is one of the few characters who played both the sides of good and evil in the series.

Formerly a student of Tokyo’s Jujutsu High and best friend to Gojo Satoru, the story shows the metamorphosis of the once dutiful Jujutsu sorcerer to the worst curse user of modern Jujutsu. However, one can onlybe strong by being weak first; Geto is no exception. Despite being one of the strongest, Geto had flaws, primarily psychological, but flaws nonetheless, and here are some of them.

5Physical Vulnerability

Like every other Jujutsu sorcerer or curse user, Geto does not have an impervious defense. Despite being able to deal with any opponent, either withhis cursed techniquesor close combat, he is still vulnerable to attacks should he let his guard down.

This vulnerability came to the fore in his fight against Toji Fushiguro, where despite being able to catch Toji off guard for only a moment, he was outclassed and overwhelmed by the Zen’in family outcast, leaving him in a pitiful state. Another example would be the battle against Yuta Okkotsu during theNight Parade of a Hundred Demons, which left him on death’s door, further reinforcing the flaw that is general to all capable of Jujutsu.

4Shaky Conviction

For most Jujutsu sorcerers, a deep-rooted ideal is required for them to continually exorcise Cursed Spirits and justify the extent of their actions, which in turn serves as an anchor to hold on to. Nanami, for instance, is motivated by money, andNoritoshi Kamo’s is familial approval. Geto, however, was always on a slippery slope regarding his ideals. He had always questioned the essence of the actions of Jujutsu sorcerers.

Firstly, choosing to believe that it was the duty of the strong to protect the weak, he dutifully carried out his missions alongside Gojo Satoru, but this belief became flaky after the death of Riko Amanai. Although not a physical flaw, his watered foundational ideals and beliefs meant he was always more likely to go over the edge than he would have stayed an obedient sorcerer. The death of his subordinate, Yu Haibara, was the final straw that tipped the scales of his mind into darkness.

3Exhaustion

After the death of Riko Amanai, Geto’s pent-up fatigue and exhaustion became more evident as he described the work of a Jujutsu Sorcerer as an endless and meaningless marathon. Rather than physically, his weariness was taking a massive toll on his mind, and his already shaky ideals began to take hit after hit. This was because of the excessive amounts of solo missions he had started undertaking. Geto’s psychological state at the time was like that of a table that had suddenly lost its legs.

Unable to visualize his convictions and use them as an anchor, added to the mental and physical fatigue from constant exorcisms more or less cleared the conditions for Geto to lose his way finally. As much as the death of Yu Haibara was the final straw, Geto was finally able to find a justifiable excuse to go off the rails. The critical difference, however, in as much as exhaustion is a general weakness of every character in the series is that Geto’s exhaustion did more psychological damage than it did physically. The implication of which was an accelerated damaging of an already crippling mind.

2Fear of Being Left Behind

Jointly titled “The Strongest"during their days as Jujutsu students, the duo of Geto Suguru and Gojo Satoru seemed to be even in terms of ability, but even that balance was fragile, it would seem. The difference between the two would be apparent shortly after the Star Plasma incident and the duo’s encounter with Toji Fushiguro. A battle that would affirm Gojo’s lone title as “the Strongest.”

Although subtle, Geto had an odd fear of being left by his best friend, as this was hinted at while Geto was recounting the events that followed the death of Riko Amanai, stating that Gojo had gone on to become “the strongest.” For reiteration, Geto is not a weak sorcerer in any physical capacity, and his flaws are more psychological than physical. His irrational fear of losing his best friend and his already divided ideals set the stage for him to go over the edge. No longer able to stand on equal footing with Gojo Satoru. His newfound conviction of curse supremacy would become his recourse.

1Sentimentality Towards Curse Users and Jujutsu Sorcerers

Despite his kind and dutiful nature before his defection from Tokyo’s Jujutsu High, Geto had always considered Jujutsu Sorcerers andCurse Users superiorto ordinary humans. Although he would not admit it, he had an inherent bias for his fellow Jujutsu Sorcerers, so it was easy for him to come up with a third option: killing all non-sorcerers. This bias, however, would ultimately lead to his demise and is the inherent difference between himself and other primary antagonists of the series.

Unlike Geto, Kenjaku thought nothing of humans, Jujutsu Sorcerers, or even Cursed Spirits, as they were all the same to him, which meant he had no attachments and wasruthless in every possible way. The same applies to Sukuna, who simply has transcended all. On the other hand, Geto truly wanted to create a world of only Curse Users and Jujutsu Sorcerers, and this sentiment made him not instantly kill Yuta Okkotsu even when he could have. Following their battle on the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, Geto is heavily wounded and ultimately dies at the hands of his best friend, Gojo Satoru.
