Even two years after its release, Epic Games’Fortnitecontinues to innovate as one of the most popular games worldwide. In the past, split-screen has been repeatedly teased as coming to the game, but was never implemented even thoughother updates were added over time. Then earlier in December, the feature was enabled but immediately pulled once players noticed glitches and problems. A few weeks later, those issues seem to have been fixed right in time for the holidays.

Since late 2017,Fortnitehas distributed post-release content in the form of different seasons. A season lasts for ten weeks and comes with a purchasable battle pass for increased tier rewards and cosmetics. Currently,Fortniteis in the first season of Chapter 2, after Chapter 1’s storyline ended at Season 10. With the newest season, a new map has been introduced along with elements such as boats and evena collaborativeStar Warsevent. Additionally, player mechanics were added such as the ability to pick up and carry teammates or enemies before throwing them somewhere else. But most importantly, Epic Games has finally re-enabled the ability to play split-screen inFortnite.

Playing Split-Screen

At this time, only PS4 and Xbox One players can play in split-screen. PC and Nintendo Switch users will have to wait until a later update at anunknown date during Chapter 2. To start, two different controllers need to be plugged into the console thatFortniteis being played on. When both controllers are connected to the console and turned on, a log-in option will pop up for the second player. Afterward, they need to log in with another user/account. At this time, a button prompt that needs to be pressed on the controller will appear in the lower right corner. If all the steps were followed, player two will show up in the lobby and ready for action.

Players should be aware that they will need two separate accounts to play in split-screen, but they can make a second one pretty easily and it doesn’t need a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live subscription. Furthermore, in addition to the current console limitations, split-screen is only available in duo and squad gameplay.

In the end, bringing a split-screen option toFortniteis a welcome addition. With this change, players will get more opportunities to play with their friends in person. Finally, even with the current restrictions, the fact that split-screen will roll out to all platforms eventually means that families will be able to skydive into the fun together.

Fortniteis available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
