There have been a ton of changes toV Risingever since theSecrets of Gloomrotupdate and even more so in its full release, from general base building to the overall flow of combat. These changes also include how planting seeds works as well as some of the underlying mechanics behind them.
Previously, players were able to plant all manners of flowers and reagents inside their castles as they pleased. Now, with the changes to how territories work inV Rising, planting requires a little bit more effort and resources. In exchange, players are now able to create dazzling gardens filled with all the flora the game presents them with.
Updated June 21, 2025 by Marc Santos:Planting seeds has more or less remained the same since V Rising’s Secrets of Gloomrot update, but players who have been away from the game for quite a while may be confused when they find that the original way of planting flowers, shrubs, and trees no longer works. The launch version of V Rising now requires an extra step before players can start planting, and thankfully, it’s not terribly complicated to do. This guide has been updated to properly reflect how things are done following V Rising’s graduation from early access.
How To Plant Seeds In V Rising
In earlier versions of the game, players could plant seeds directly onto any outdoor floor tile. In the launch version,players now need to placeGrowing Plotsfirst. The recipe for these is unlocked by defeating Polora the Feywalker, a level 38 V Blood boss in the western end of the Farbane Woods.
Beating Polora unlocks the entire suite of gardening options for players to choose fromwhen building castles inV Rising.This includes a variety of floor tiles, hedge rows, as well as the aforementioned Growing Plots, which come in different sizes. To plant seeds, place andselect them in the hotbar, and left-click on any vacant plot. you may find Growing Plots under the Production tab of the build menu.
All Growing Plots (except Exterior Growing Plots) can be placed indoors and on non-dirt/grass floor tiles. Plants will still grow even if they don’t receive any direct sunlight.
Bigger plots can accommodate more seeds (up to seven). Any combination of seeds can be planted in a single crop, and players don’t need to do any maintenance in order for them to grow and survive. If you want to plant trees, you need to use Large Growing Plots, which can accommodate one tree seed each.
You don’t necessarily need to place plants in gardens. Some can be used as decorative pieces and, in some cases, moody light sources. Also, the game has plants that are purely decorative. These are placed inside vases and planters instead of plots.
Where To Get Seeds
Seeds have a chance to drop every time a player destroys a flowering plant with their weapons. Some plants, such asthe Sacred Grapes added inV Rising 1.0, can only be found in specific regions. Players can check the highlighted zones on their map to see what kind of resources they can expect to find.
An alternate way to get seeds is to visit the trading hubs in the Farbane Woods, Dunley Farmlands, and Brighthaven. These areas have vendors who may have some seeds for sale. You’ll need either Copper, SIlver, or Goldsun coins to buy from merchants, and the type of currency you need depends on which area you’re in.
