House of the Dragonmay be known for fire and blood, but a fan shared a video outlining the uncanny similarities theGame of Thronesprequel has with 2001’s animated hitShrek.

House of the Dragonis one of HBO’s many prestige shows. Setduring one of the most important events in Targaryen history, the series covers a myriad of serious topics: murder, dismemberment, and violence are commonplace in the series. It’s the farthest thing from the celebrated kids' animated film, but a viral video has exposed thatHouse of the DragonandShrekshare more similarities than would initially be believed.

The video, posted on Twitter byasoiaf media, highlights the many similarities. The tense family dinner between the Targaryens inHouse of the Dragonepisode 8is compared to the tense family dinner between Shrek (Mike Myers), Fiona (Cameron Diaz), and her parents (John Cleese, Julie Andrews), right down to the presence of a succulent pig at the center of the drama. Furthermore. Aemond’s (Leo Ashton) confrontation with Vhagar is comparable to Donkey’s (Eddie Murphy) confrontation with his future wife, Dragon.

Even King Viserys (Paddy Considine) isn’t immune to comparisons to the dying King Harold, Fiona’s father who also happens to be a frog. Daemon (Matt Smith) and Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) fancy High Valyrian wedding is compared to Shrek and Fiona’s union. And finally, Fiona’s green-clad human form is compared to Queen Alicent’s (Emily Carey) grand entrance at the end ofHouse of the Dragonepisode 3.

It’s a fun look at another side ofHouse of the Dragon, which features a more dry sense of humor than the silliness of theShrekfilms. Set to Smash Mouth’s “All-Star,” the song provides fun background noise to the video that’ssynonymous with theShrekfranchisein the internet meme culture at this point. The dour seriousness ofHouse of the Dragon, involving prophecies and Princes That Were Promised, makes the airy vibe of the video welcome.

Funnily enough, it’s not the first time theGame of Thronesfranchise has been compared toShrek. Jaime Lannister’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) famous frock of hair in the early seasons of the fantasy has been compared to the looks of Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) fromShrek 2.
