AHalo Reachplayer has created a haunting mod that combines UNSC Spartans with Covenant Grunts. The blend between the two simply doesn’t look right, andHalo Reach’s dated graphics only make the creation more bizarre to look at.
The release ofHalo: The Master Chief Collectionon PC has been enormous for theHalomodding community. With the older games previously restricted by the restraints of the Xbox 360, modders never really got to show their true potential in Bungie’s classic titles. To the credit of 343 Industries, the developer has done a brilliant job at providing the modding tools necessary to breathe new life into the games, and the results speak for themselves. TheHalo Rebornmod is perhaps the most impressive so far, aiming to bring all ofHalo: Combat EvolvedandHalo 2intoHalo 3’s game engine withinThe Master Chief Collection.

The clip by Redditor GashnorOfficial is the stuff of nightmares. The Grunt-Spartan hybrid waddles toward the camera, revealing its true form. It has entirely Spartan armor, with a comically oversized helmet, but maintains the short and stout shape of a Grunt.Halo’s Spartansare often depicted as killing machines throughout the franchise, but it’s extremely hard to take this particular one seriously at all. The user had nothing to say about where the idea for the mod came from, so it appears to have been a cursed moment of inspiration.
According to GashnorOfficial, the mod is a rigging of Marcus Lehto’s model of the Mark V Spartan armor, just scaled to fit a Grunt as a variant adding to the existing game. It would definitely change the tone ofHalo Reach’s campaignto see these guys strolling around. The game famously features one of the darkest FPS campaigns of all time, but the Spartan-Grunt hybrid is a bit of fun and not to be taken seriously at all, even if it is haunting to look at.
Hopefully theHalomodding sceneremains strong for years to come. 343 Industries seems to have fully embraced the idea that gamers should be able to create custom content for its games, and this is a wise decision. With games likeSkyrimandFallout 4being kept alive well beyond their expiry dates due to mods, the benefits are obvious. Too many studios are still quick to turn their backs on modders, and they’re all leaving a lot of future money on the table by doing so.Halofans need not worry about suffering the same fate.
Halo Reachis currently available on Xbox 360 and viaHalo: The Master Chief Collectionon PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
