Halo Infinite’s approach to the live-service model has been a tad disappointing. WhileHalo Infiniteshowed a great deal of promise upon its initial release, acting like a return to form for the Sci-Fi shooter franchise, the cracks soon began to show. A lack of maps, some missing fan-favorite weapons, and a sparse number ofgame modes inHalo Infiniteall culminated in a somewhat lackluster experience. But by far the biggest disappointment withHalo Infinitehas been 343 Industries' approach to fan feedback.
WhileHalofans aren’t necessarily the calmest fans in the gaming ecosphere, the criticisms leveled towardsHalo Infinitewere mostly valid, but 343 Industries took quite some time before addressing any ofHalo Infinite’s gameplay issues. Over the last seven months or so, 343 Industries has implemented a number of changes and added a handful of content toHalo Infinite, and while it’s certainly welcome, the game isn’t quite there yet. However, that hasn’t stopped 343 from continuing to try, even with the recent cancelation ofHalo Infinite’s campaign co-op, and the upcoming Yappening event is the perfect example of this.

Halo Infinite’s Yappening Event
Announced in a comic strip, tweeted out by the officialHaloTwitter account, an event calledThe Yappening is headed toHalo Infinitenext weekon September 6. In the comic strip, a Grunt wearing makeshift Spartan armor calls up the UNSC and exclaims that he has some goods to share. Upon being invited inside, the adorable little smuggler opens up his box of wares, revealing some spray cans, a banana keychain, and a soccer ball wearing “Yapyap’s very own custom-made rare headfin bladehat.” The final strip of the comic claims that The Yappening is happening, with the tagline “play weird games, get weird stuff.”
The Yappening event actually first appeared in theRTS spin-offHalo Wars 2, where the event’s namesake made his debut. Coming to the game as DLC, Yapyap The Destroyer used Grunt Goblin suits to overwhelm his opponents, all while spewing out some snarky one-liners. Yapyap was then used as the face of the Yappening event, which saw a variety of outlandish game modes come toHalo Wars 2for a limited time. The Yappening also spread toHalo: The Master Chief Collectionin 2018, once again bringing a range of absurd game modes to the table. The Yappening also affectedHalo: MCC’s user interface, changing some icons and even the names of some menu items.
Based on the tone of the comic strip announcement, it seems as thoughHalo Infinite’s Yappening event will follow suit. Fans can probably expect to see at least one or two limited-time game modes head toHalo Infinitenext week, along with a slew of cosmetics, all themed around Yapyap’s incompetence on the battlefield. If the comic strip is anything to go by, then it seems likely that fans will get to unlock a handful of new colored skins for both armor and weapons, along with a banana weapon charm. It also seems likely that players will be able to get their hands on the “custom headfin bladehat” that the Grunt was trying to peddle in the comic. The Yappening is set to start on September 6, and will apparently run for at least a week, though the end date isn’t currently known.
Halo Infiniteis available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
