Modders are always an important cornerstone of any player base, and thisGrand Theft Auto Onlineevent helps prove that. One modder took inspiration fromFortnitein-game events to create an awesome fireworks show for their lobby.
FortniteandGTA Onlineare both competitive games with a lot of action, but they have some key differences. A lot of theGTA Onlineplayer base operates on a shoot-on-sight M.O. that has the tendency to frustrate newer players just trying tocomplete their “participate in” Daily Objectives. It’s not often that players seeGTA Onlineplayers gathering together to watch a fireworks show without shooting each other.

Fortniteis known for its events that pull big groups of players together.GTA Onlineisn’t the first game to take inspiration fromFortnite’s popular event style — in April, Infinity Ward announced their intention to putFortnite-style events intoCall of Duty: Warzone.Events seem to be popular across games, and many players enjoy the sense of community and fun they bring.
Reddit user Mike_Not_Michael captured and posted what he called “a wholesome moment” for theGTA Onlinecommunity. The clip shows a large group of players grouped together and watching a fireworks show. Many of them are wearing alien bodysuits (which areavailable for free in an event that ends May 13). The Redditor commented that this was the first time he’d seen so many players so close together that weren’t attempting to attack each other.
Many commenters on the Reddit thread expressed their disbelief, and some even wondered if the modder had bribed the players into playing nice. The event does seem unusual toGTA Online, where evendifferent-colored alien suits can be an excusefor players to mercilessly target each other. The player base is notorious for taking advantage of glitches and for being very competitive, so skepticism is warranted.
Still, the video is entertaining and gives one hope for the player base and forGTA 6.And the game isn’t as cutthroat as it might seem at first glance. Fireworks launchers wouldn’t even exist inGTA Onlineif the game didn’tgive them out to all players for free last New Year’s. Although a lot of the players might be uber-competitive, there’s still plenty of fun to be had in the game, and hopefully, more moments like the one Mike_Not_Michael observed.
Grand Theft Auto Onlineis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
