Grand Theft Auto Onlineis still a juggernaut after all these years. Fans who have been around since the beginning were able to transfer their characters forward to the Xbox One and PS4. Now that the game has crossed over three console generations, players might want to maintain their progress by migrating their characters over one more time.
Thankfully, the process has been made easier with the game’s release on Xbox Series X/PS5. Players worried about losing all thathard-earned cash and luxury itemscan use this guide to migrate their characters to current-gen consoles. This process will only work for fans on consoles as PC progress cannot be transferred to Xbox/Playstation.
Character Migration
Whenplayers startGrand Theft Auto 5for the first time, they must select the Online tab to begin their multiplayer criminal career.If the player has any characters from the Xbox One/PS4 version of the game, they will automatically get the chance to migrate their profile. Accept the migration and the characters will come over to the Series X/PS5 version just like that.All cash, vehicles, weapons, and properties will be there for players to use and enjoy.
This will overwrite any characters currently on the console. Migrating a profiledoes not remove these characters from the previous gen versionsand any new progress will be tied to each respective console.
If fans want to migrate their profile later or have already started a character, they can still do so. Open up the pause menu while in game and switch to the online tab.Press on Migrate Profile to begin the process.
Manage Characters
