Speculation aboutGrand Theft Auto 6potentially being in development at Rockstar Games is reaching a peak. Fans are hungry for any evidence that the game is in development, as well as evidence of the game’s setting and story. The latest example is a blurry screenshot that someGrand Theft Autofans believe is fromGrand Theft Auto 6, but others say it is just the latest fake meant to stir fans up. Unfortunately, there isn’t a clear answer either way yet, though the pink Rockstar logo in the corner makes clear that it’s intended to be perceived as a GTA 6 screenshot.
The screenshot in question shows a skyline with skyscrapers in the distance and a shadowed lot with palm trees in the foreground. The screenshot shows a pinkish sunset occurring, but likely also has a heavy color filter that brightens the sunset’s hues. Some say this could be a screenshot fromGrand Theft Auto6, while others say it’s either a heavily filtered photo or amodded version ofGrand Theft Auto 5.

Two aspects of the image are what’s stirring up fans. The first is that this image may be of the Miami skyline, the cityVice Cityis based on and a rumored location forGrand Theft Auto 6. The second is the colorization, asGrand Theft Auto 6is rumored to have aVice City-like mood to it. That this photo features both of those things proves nothing, but is perfect for stirring up speculation.
One truth worth considering is that for a screenshot, it’s pretty horrible. More than half of the image is so dark that most detail can’t be picked out. If it is a screenshot, it would have had to have been taken by a developer or a playtester. Which begs the question, why would there be a Rockstar logo on an unofficial screenshot? IfRockstarwas stamping its logo on a screenshot, it’d be a much higher quality image than what’s been provided.
In all likelihood, this image is not fromGrand Theft Auto 6. It seems most likely to be a real photo that’s been heavily filtered. But it just goes to show how excitedGrand Theft Autofans are for news about what Rockstar is working on next. Also worth considering is how frustrated some fans are going to be ifGrand Theft Auto 6isn’t partially set in Miami/Vice City, or if it doesn’t have that80sVice Cityvibeto it. Fun rumors aren’t always best for game development.
Grand Theft Auto 6is not officially confirmed.
