It’s true thatGod of War Ragnarokis a cross-gen releaseavailable for both PS4 and PS5, but the versions of the game are not necessarily created equal.God of War Ragnarok’s PS5 version looks better, runs better, and performs better than its PS4 counterpart, though the PS4 version should be in better shape after update 2.02. On the PS5 side,God of War Ragnarokupdate 2.02 performs vague “service adjustments,” while the PS4 version fixes crashes that were plaguing the game. These crashes were also present in the PS5 version ofGod of War Ragnarokat one point, but they were fixed with the day one update. It’s unclear why PS4 gamers had to wait longer for the fixes to come to their version of the game.

The crashes fixed byGod of War Ragnarokupdate 2.02 include one that would happen after the game’s first boss fight, and another that would happen “randomly during gameplay.” Another crash was associated with using the Platinum Wireless Headset when playing the game on PS4, and that issue has also been resolved as of update 2.02.

God of War Ragnarokis a polished experience with little in the way of game-breaking bugs or major glitches, so it’s unclear how often it will receive updates. However, it’s possible that there will be more substantial content updates forGod of War Ragnarokthat aim to add new features to the experience. For example, the 2018God of Wargame received a New Game+ feature after launch, and so some areexpectingGod of War Ragnarokto add New Game+at some point as well, though official plans to that effect have not been announced at the time of this writing.
