“The Broken Blacksmith” is one of several early main-story missions inGhost of Tsushima. Jin Sakai continues his quest to help Yuna free her blacksmith brother Taka, the quest’s namesake. Like most early missions inGhost of Tsushima, “The Broken Blacksmith” sets up characters that will form the bedrock of the overall narrative.

“The Broken Blacksmith” introduces both Jin and the player to Kenji, a loquacious saki salesmen who is always trying to weasel his way out of pretty much every situation he’s in, dangerous or otherwise. As will become apparent over the course of the story, Kenji’s presence is supposed to bring some levity toGhost of Tsushima’s otherwise bleak story, but he clearly has heart. Despite his initial reluctance to help, Kenji does come through when it matters. Now the plan to rescue Taka can proceed.

When he arrives at the meeting point, Jin will hear what will come to be a common sound: Kenji running his mouth. Even before Jin meets the bumbling saki merchant, it’s clear that he loves the sound of his own voice. At this particular moment, he and Yuna are arguing about rescuing Taka. Jin joins the conversation, ‘convincing’ Kenji to go along with Yuna’s plan to use the saki cart to get into the Azamo Bay prison camp. Kenji, despite his verbal protests, seems to be going along with the plan.

Jin can assassinate the single Mongol guard to te right of the building, which allows them to cross the courtyard without being seen from behind. As they approach the bamboo cages, use Focused Hearing to see the location of two crossing guards. Once they pass, head into the building. There are several ways to make it on the roof, or they can remain on the ground and follow the slaver right to Taka.

Look for a mission marker above a patch of pampas grass. Once they reach this area, Taka will hear horses and think it’s more Mongols, but it turns out to be Kenji bringing horses for the escape.

Once the group meets with Kenji, the game will fade to black in order to indicate a passage of time. It will fade back in after sunrise, and the group has not seen any Mongols for hours. Eventually they will pull off to rest at an overlook, noting how close they are to Komatsu forge, their ultimate destination. However, for now, they will rest and recuperate.
