Like many open world games,Ghost of Tsushimahas a day/night cycle with dynamic weather. The story of Jin Sakai takes place over a long period of time and the world around him moves forward regardless if players are collecting supplies, resting at a hot spring, ortaking on bamboo strike challenges. Developer Sucker Punch however, has recently revealed that players may have more influence on mother nature than originally thought.

In an interview with GameSpot, Nate Fox,Ghost of Tsushima’sCreative Director, revealed that certain missions in the game focus on the Ghost Path, meaning Jin is pushing beyond the honorable ways of the Samurai and defeating his enemies with stealth, diversion, and backstabbing. As if to reflect Jin’s own inner turmoil, the weather will be volatile during these missions and thunderstorms will take over the skies until the mission is complete, making for some great photo moments.

While not on a story mission orkeeping busy petting foxes on the island, players can do their part to free the island from Mongol invaders. Instead of walking up to an encampment and challenging the bad guys, players can choose the Ghost Path, sneak through, and take down one enemy at a time quietly. Choosing this option will not only affect the game play but the weather as well. As with the missions where players are forced to tread carefully, players who choose the option on their own will see the weather reflect those choices.

Ghost of Tsushimahas a large world to explore, Players trying to collect everything may berelying on interactive mapsto help but playing the flute can help a great deal as well. Using the flute can change the weather on the spot with different songs that Jin can acquire throughout the game. Players who prefer sneaking and stealth will want to acquire the song Shadow in the fog while those who want clear skies should play The Sun’s warm embrace.
