A new leak fromGenshin Impactis teasing the designs for several NPCs from the upcoming Fontaine region, introducing players to the non-human Melusine race. While the playable cast of HoYoverse’s massively popular RPG often takes the spotlight, the game has featuredseveral prominent and memorable NPCsthroughout its many quests. Characters like Dunyarzad, Rana, and Jeht have played major roles in both the game’s main story and its major world quests. Now, leaks are teasing that a group of new NPCs players will meet within Fontaine.
While the Melusines have been teased throughoutGenshin Impact’s early teasers for Fontaine, the anthropomorphized animals are far from the game’s first prominent non-human NPCs. Recent world quests have featured major non-playable races including the Pari creatures that inhabit Sumeru’s Vourukasha Oasis and the Aranara located throughout the region’s rainforest. The beast-like Hilichurls also stand out as some of the game’s most common enemies, found throughout the world of Teyvat. Now, a new non-human race is set to be introduced to the game with the Melusines of Fontaine.

A batch of images uploaded by prominentGenshin Impactleaker Vississ has revealed the firstin-game appearances of several Melusine NPCs within Fontaine. The Melusines feature a variety of different colorations with pinkish, blue, and black mixed with white markings throughout their appearance. Many sport the same animal ears atop their head, though one image does show there is some variation between the different kinds of Melusine. Several Melusines also sport less extravagant attire than many of Fontaine’s already-revealed characters, hinting at therumored class divide within Fontaine.
The appearance of the Melusine comes as players have heavily speculated about newnon-human characters that could be involved with Fontaine’s story. Alongside the Melusines, Fontaine’s multiple teasers have also shown off robotic figures walking the streets of Fontaine City. WhileGenshin Impact’s depiction of machines has largely been limited to the Ruin enemies found throughout Teyvat, Katheryne of the Adventurer’s Guild was previously revealed to be a humanoid robot. No Melusines currently appear withinGenshin Impact, expected to debut with Fontaine in Version 4.0.
With only one month remaining until Fontaine’s expected release, HoYoverse has given fans plenty of reasons to be excited about the upcoming region. HoYoverse officially revealed thethree characters coming with Fontaine’s launchearlier this month with Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet set to debut. The developer has also teased several new gameplay elements coming with the new region, including a new diving mechanic within Fontaine and leaks suggesting underwater combat will also appear. The Melusines will serve as just one part of a vibrant new playable area set to come toGenshin Impactnext month.
