After three rounds of voting,Genshin Impactis leading the Player’s Voice category at The Game Awards with over 53% of the vote, according to IGN. Second place isSonic Frontierswith 33% of the vote, whileElden Ringonly has 8% of the vote.God of War RagnarokandStraytrail behind those games with 5% and 1% of the vote, respectively. It’s likely that these numbers have changed since IGN reported on it, but current results are unavailable as the Game Awards site does not appear to be working properly at the time of this writing, perhaps due to an influx of users submitting votes for the Player’s Voice category.
Genshin ImpactandSonic Frontiershave been neck and neckwhen it comes to Player’s Voice voting, but it looks likeGenshin Impactis going to run away with the award this year. There are some who may take issue with this, mainly becauseGenshin Impactdid not release in 2022. All the other games nominated in the Player’s Voice category were games that actually launched in 2022, whereasGenshin Impactoriginally released in 2020.
Presumably, the reason whyGenshin Impactis up for the Player’s Voice in 2022 despite first releasing in 2020 is because of its live service nature.Genshin Impactis a live service gacha gamethat sees updates on a frequent basis, and it is nominated for Best Ongoing Game as a result. It remains to be seen if it will win that category, but for now, it looks like it’s going to easily win the Player’s Voice category come December 8.
