A gamer decided to take apart anXbox Oneconsole case and built a fully-functional gaming PC on the inside of it, and showed their work for other gamers to see. The creator posted several pictures and specifications of their new gaming PC, and other gamers praised them for their creativity and for giving their oldXbox Onecase a new purpose in the current age.
Originally released in November 2013, the Xbox One was Microsoft’s counter to Sony’s PS4 at the time. However, the console had issues from the start, thanks to the controversy surrounding Microsoft’s initial DRM policies that would have required constant Internet connectivity for the system to run. While those efforts were rescinded,DRM made a small return with the Xbox Series Xin the wake of Xbox Game Pass becoming a preferred method for gamers. The Xbox One was discontinued after the release of the Xbox Series X, and one gamer decided to give their Xbox One a new life by building a new PC in the chassis.

On Reddit, a user named FitMango2465 posted their handiwork on the consoles subreddit. In the build, the OP installed an Intel i3 10100 quad-core processoron a mini-ITX motherboard. The motherboard in question was the MSI MPG B560i. The OP then installed 16GB of RAM, a 2TB m.2 solid state drive, an Intel Arc A380 graphics card from AsRock, and used a proprietary 600-watt power supply to power the system. When building the PC, FitMango2465 stated they had to use a Dremel cutting tool to make some adjustments on the backside of the console, remove the old Xbox part standoffs from the chassis, and install some fans throughout the unit. However, this left the graphics card exposed from the back, which the OP said they would clean up in the future.
FitMango2465 stated that the system ran quite hot under full load, with CPU temperatures topping out at 94 °C, and the GPU temperatures peaking at 85 °C. While the performance of the Intel Arc A380 is not meant for high-end gaming, its budget-friendly price of $140 makes ita viable starting point for budget PC builds. In total, FitMango2465 spent under $700 on the build. The post received encouragement from other Redditors for turning the Xbox One into a new PC.
In a follow-up, FitMango2465 said they planned toupgrade the graphics cardto an RTX 4050 and make some improvements to the thermal performance of the system in the future. Only time will tell if these efforts prove successful.
