AnXboxconsole update coming in the future could include a big new quality-of-life feature that may be felt by a majority of the player base. As Microsoft continues to update the Xbox Series X/S, several things have been adjusted like the dashboard, controller pairing issues, and more, with one future change being tested byXboxinsiders.

The Xbox Series X and Series S were released in 2020, and since then they have received a handful of console updates that have changed things for Xbox fans that upgraded to the latest hardware. Xbox notably solved a problem impacting many Series X/S users that caused theirXbox controllersto lose pairing with the console, resulting in some frustrated gamers ahead of the hardware update. Though the Xbox Series X/S dashboard has been adjusted a few times through these patches and has gotten improved visual fidelity, some Xbox fans have been anticipating something that may benefit them more like something that has been teased in the Xbox Insider update notes.

Based on the patch notes for the June 2 Xbox Insider alpha skip-ahead, “content installation and updating” has seen a big change which should result in Xbox Series X/S owners getting faster download speeds. According to Xbox, the Microsoft engineers played a big role in expanding the capabilities of theXbox Series X/S downloadswhich seems to suggest that they’ve been tinkering with the consoles behind the scenes to get the most out of them. While the next Xbox console has been rumored by a small handful of gamers, the Xbox Series X/S continues to improve which may entice some fans who are waiting for a mid-gen upgrade to jump on board earlier.

Download speeds have been a contentious issue for many console owners since the sixth and seventh generations of consoles, and it is largely linked to internet speeds. TheXbox Series X/S and PS5famously improved load speeds by including solid-state drives rather than hard drives, with Xbox opting to have a proprietary card rather than an easily replaceable one like the PS5 which allows for third-party drives. Despite these loading speeds, download completion has remained mostly comparable to the last Xbox generation, but Microsoft engineers may have adjusted what the console is capable of by reallocating internal power to focus on what’s being installed rather than background programs.

Because it’s still being tested byXbox Insiderslike many changes before it, it’s currently unclear just when the improved download speeds will be brought to the majority of Xbox Series X/S consoles. Given that it remains exclusive to Xbox Insiders, the download speed increases may see some bug and glitch adjustments before it comes to the platform across the board.
