Summary
The next season ofFortniteis promising to bring plenty of new content to fit the apparent heist theme, but players are speculating The Citadel may be on the way out. Players have been able to explore the castle since itsintroduction in Chapter 4 Season 1, making it a prime point for loot and firefights over the following seasons. However, some players believe recent footage of Season 4 shows the point of interest may be gone in favor of a locale that better fits the new season’s theme.
Epic Games confirmed the name ofFortnite’s next season will be “Last Resort” and appears to feature an overall heist theme, providing a significant change of pace to Season 3’s jungle motif. To fit the theme, new cosmetics and gear have been teased for players to bring into battle including a deployable briefcase turret to keep other players stuck in the mud. Asteria also looks to be getting some updates to fit the season with new points of interest spread across the map for players to explore and discover useful loot in.

However, the new points of interest have some players speculating about which current locations are on the way out, with The Citadel being one such location that could be gone at the start of the next season based on recent trailers. Reddit user LemonCarlito is one of these players speculating about The Citadel’s future onAsteria Island, pointing out that the high-tech mansion seen in the Last Resort’s cinematic trailer may be where the castle is currently set. Lemon points to one of the cliffs overlooking The Citadel’s ravine appearing to be the same one overlooking the mansion teased in the cinematic trailer.
The speculation appeared to draw a largely mixed response from other users, with a common point being if The Citadel is an appealing location to explore during a match. Most players say the locale is visually appealing due to the medieval motif and verticality the castle provides, making it an ideal spot to hold up if possible. However, a common criticism was that the removal ofOathbound Chestsmade it less appealing for players trying to find better loot.
Players won’t have to wait long to find out if The Citadel is gone, as Last Resort will begin after a short maintenance period on August 25. Along with the heist-themed gear, Epic Games has already teased some of the new skins players will be able to get their hands on at some point in Season 4, includingAhsoka Tanoand influencer Khaby Lame.
