The past few weeks followingFortnite’s holiday-themed events have been pretty quiet. Withthe first season ofFortniteChapter 2 continuing to go into overtime, it seems like Epic Games is simply waiting for the next season to finally arrive before kicking things back into gear. Luckily for players, that time is coming soon, and now we know how soon exactly.
It’s been known since November that Season 1 would end sometime in February, but that’s been as specific as Epic has been willing to say, until today. In a message to theFortnitecommunity, the developer revealed that Chapter 2 Season 2 is currently scheduled to begin on February 20. That’s a Thursday, which, given thatFortnitetypically adds new weekly content on Thursdays, makes sense.

As for what the new season will bring, Epic teased multiple new features, but cheekily hid them behind multiple redactions. “We can’t brief you on all of next Season’s secrets just yet…” it wrote. While Epic isn’t offering any concrete details just yet, players have recently noticedsome strange things happening in Pleasant Parkthat could possibly be signaling some sort of change happening there soon.
Season 2 wasn’t the only thing Epic had to tease. The next few weeks leading up to it will see a few significant behind-the-scenes changes made to the game. Starting with the 11.50 update set to arrive in early February, Epic will be switchingFortniteover to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics system. How this will affect the game ultimately wasn’t specified, but early on the developer said it will run tests with “a small group of players” to iron out the kinks and “ensure thatFortnitestill feels likeFortnite.”
While all that will be going on, players won’t be running out of new things to do while they wait for Season 2. Epic stated that Season 1 will see a few more Overtime Challenges and a “new two-week event” before it finally wraps up. After that, however, fans can only speculate whereFortniteis going in 2020, as well as whichin-game events could possibly happen inFortnite.
