Epic Games has introduced a new community-made limited time mode (or LTM) called Search and Destroy toFortnite, and it is available to play today. The game mode is part ofFortnite’sValentine’s Day-themed Love and War event, which will continue until February 17, three days after the holiday proper.
The Search and Destroy LTM revolves around two teams of six players each: the attackers that are attempting to plant a bomb at specific bombsites and the defenders that are trying to stop them. The attacking team can achieve victory by successfully planting and activating the bomb at a bombsite onFortnite’s map, while the defenders can win by either defusing the bomb or eliminating the entire opposing team.

The LTM also features elements that will be familiar to fans of games likeCounter-Strike: Global Offensive. For example, a match is divided into rounds, and gold coins, which can be used to buy building materials, weapons, and items from vending machines, are carried between them. A match of Search and Destroy is comprised of a maximum of eleven rounds, and thus teams need to achieve victory in six rounds to win.
With respect to rewards, fans can earn someFortnitecosmeticsby playing the new Search and Destroy LTM. A free emote, wrap, and pickaxe can all be earned through this game mode, and more themed items will also be coming toFortnite’sstore soon as part of the Love and War event.
Search and destroy game modes are quite popular in the video game world today. Indeed, series likeCall of DutyandBattlefieldhave created their own spins on the formula, and it is thus not extremely surprising thatEpic Gamesis trying its hand at search and destroy.
While the war part ofFortnite’sLove and War event may be readily apparent in this new LTM, the love part might take a bit of searching. When it comes toFortnite’s take on search and destroy, the only way for fans to know if they are in love with it is to try it themselves.
Fortniteis available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and mobile.
