Forspokendeveloper Luminous Productions will soon end its run as a separate studio, according to a statement released earlier today. This news comes just over a month after the release ofForspoken.

Luminous Productions started out with the intent to develop AAA game titles that according to the announcement were designed to be a fusion of both artistry and technology. That vision culminated inForspoken’srelease on January 25, albeit not without several glaring issues that still need to be fixed.

Nonetheless, on Jul 31, 2025, Luminous will cease to exist and will be merging with its parent company Square Enix. The announcement was made on Twitter, with the studio highlighting that its team will otherwise remain as-is and will be working on what is being described as “new, innovative gaming experiences to players across the globe” following the transition.

Luminous did confirm, however, that support will continue forForspokenin the meantime as the studio’s main commitment. This includes the upcoming patch that will address many of the technical issues withForspoken, and the game’s DLC,In Tanta We Trust, which is still on the way.

Indeed, the fact that the studio has endured its situation withForspokenup to this point is a testament to a willingness to deliver on promises to improve on its work. Despite themajor technical issues withForspokenthat may or may not have contributed to such a decision, the studio is still going to do right by its players by releasing every piece of its planned game content and fixing the problems before the merger is finalized. But at the same time, it is rarely a good thing when a merger (or even an outright shutdown) occurs this soon after a troublesome matter (though it is not clear if what happened withForspokenis a contributing factor in this particular case).

However, the fact that Luminous has mentioned the transition to newer, upcoming efforts suggests a combination of factors, potentially making the support run for the game as short as the developer’s existence to the point where the previously announced DLC (upon its release) holds the suggestion that it will be the end of the story ofForspoken. In other words, once the transition is complete, the possibility exists that Square Enix will be moving on from the game despite only having it released just a month prior. This kind of situation isnot unheard of in game developmentby any means, but it’s always sad to see the end of an era in conditions such as this.

Forspokenis available on PC and PlayStation 5.
