Hell of a Summerjust got a first-look photo. The horror comedy is the directorial debut ofStranger Thingsstar Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk. It will also be presented at this month’s European Film Market in Berlin.

Hell of Summer’s plot is currently unknown.Wolfhard’s involvement with the horror comedywas revealed last July, but details have been scarce since then. In addition to directing and writing the film, Bryk and Wolfhard are set to star. The two previously co-starred inGhostbusters: Afterlifeand Wolfhard’s latest film,When You Finish Saving the World.

According to a report byVariety, Altitude Film Sales will handle international sales ofHell of a Summer, which is currently in pre-production. Altitude Film Sales will also present the film at the European Film Market. The report also included a first-look image of the project. In the first-look photo, Bryk and Wolfhard’s characters are seen staring in shock at something off-screen, armed only with flashlights.

TheHell of a Summercast includes some other notable rising stars.Butcher’s Crossingstar Fred Hechinger, also known for his work onThe White Lotusand theFear Streetfilms, is set to star and produce the film alongside Wolfhard, Bryk, Jay Van Hoy, Michael Costigan, and Jason Bateman. In addition, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs), Abby Quinn (Mad About You), and Pardis Saremi (Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem) are set to star.

Hell of a Summerrepresents a big move in Wolfhard’spost-Stranger Thingscareer. Wolfhard has previously been known for his efforts in front of the camera, so his directorial debut signals a possible career shift in the future. For his part, Wolfhard has signalled he’s ready to move on fromStranger Thingsonce the show finishes airing sometime later this year or early next year. He has also recently revealed his resiliency. Despite suffering from panic attacks due to the constant spotlight on his movements, Wolfhard has dedicated himself to film and television out of passion.

His experience withStranger Thingswas likely invaluable when filmingHell of a Summer. Though the series' primary focus is on horror, it also has elements of humor, intrigue, and other genres mixed into it. After years of watching the Duffer Brothers direct the show, the film will likely be right up Wolfhard’s alley.
