When Square Enix announcedFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeso many years ago, fans didn’t know they would be waiting for so long. The first game was a long time coming, butFinal Fantasy 7 Remakewas beloved by many fans at launch and eventually expanded with theFinal Fantasy 7 RemakeIntergrade chapter. When Square Enix announced a special 25th-anniversary event for the franchise, many hoped the long-awaited official reveal of the second part would be there.

There were a ton of exciting announcements at theFinal Fantasy 7event, including an improved version of Crisis Core and a Steam Port for the first part of the remake (releasing June 15, 2025), but of course, Square Enix delivered upon several fan requests when it pulled back the curtain onFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2.

TheFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2trailer opens by discussing/questioning Sephiroth’s endgame and his plans for the planet, while showing off what appears to be a bigger open area than seen in the first game’s Midgard. It also seems to tease more developments ofZack Fair’s new storybefore ending rather quickly. It’s not much, but it is a nice teaser of what’s to come.

The trailer ends by revealing its official title,Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, and confirming a release window of next Winter, meaning 2023. This means fans still have a long wait ahead of them, but Square Enix also confirmed there would bethree parts to theFinal Fantasy 7 Remake. At the very least, this gives fans some new and reasonable expectations for the second and third parts. A trilogy, probably accompanied by DLC, is the best direction for the franchise, but there’s one way some fans may have been disappointed by the showcase.

AlthoughFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergradewas confirmed for Steam, there was no announcement regardingFF7 Remake’s Xbox release. It launched as a timed exclusive, but it’s possible Square Enix and Sony decided to extend this as far as consoles go. Many were hoping this port would be announced there, but to no avail. Interestingly enough, however, whileFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwas only confirmed for PS5,Crisis Core: Reunionis launching for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. So, there’s still some hope that theRemakewill arrive on Xbox at some point in the future.
