As a JRPG, certain items in theFinal Fantasyseries can be quite difficult to obtain. Some of the best items in each title usually require the player to dedicate some serious effort into acquiring them, while others simply cost a ridiculous amount of Gil.

Most fans of theFinal Fantasyseries will be familiar with how difficult it can be to obtain certain game-changing items. Most of these items are usually worth the required work, but some feel a little too expensive for what the player gets in return. There are someridiculously overpriced itemsin the series, and though some of them are arguably worth the price, some feel a little too costly to justify the steep price.
5Member’s Writ - Final Fantasy 4
Upon reaching the town of Troia inFinal Fantasy 4,Cecil, the Dark Knight, will learn he cannot access the lower floor of the King’s Bounty Pub without first purchasing the Member’s Writ, a document confirming his membership. To obtain the Member’s Writ, however, Cecil will need to part with 100,000 Gil, but what he gets for doing so isn’t really worthwhile.
Upon purchasing the Member’s Writ, Cecil will receive the Gil Farmer ability, which permits him to earn even more Gil during combat. However, the Member’s Writ is one of the most expensive items inFinal Fantasy 4, so by the time players have amounted the funds to buy it, they likely won’t need the ability it grants them. If it were cheaper, the Member’s Writ would be a pretty handy item to possess, but sadly, it isn’t really worth the cost.

4Yojimbo - Final Fantasy 10
Though Yojimbo isn’t an item, the way he presents himself to the party makes it hard to argue otherwise. Found in the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth, Yuna and her companions can ask Yojimbo to join the party’s side on theirquest to defeat Sin. Most players will assume Yojimbo will happily join Yuna, but sadly, this isn’t the case.
To acquire the abilityto summon Yojimbo, players need to fork out a pretty high amount of Gil. Thankfully, the player can decide how much Gil their willing to part with, but Yojimbo will only accept a certain amount. This means players will need to part with a pretty hefty sum in order to gain his services. As if this wasn’t expensive enough, commanding Yojimbo to attack also requires the player to pay up. For those hoping to make use of him during the more challenging battles inFinal Fantasy 10, they should prepare to part with most of their Gil.

3Zodiac Spear
The Zodiac Spear was the most powerful weapon available in the original version ofFinal Fantasy 12, and thoughThe Zodiac Agestill presents it as extremely powerful, it is no longerthe best weapon in the game. It is because of this change that the effort required to obtain the Zodiac Spear no longer feels worth it, especially when the methods for acquiring it have been altered.

There are even more ways to obtain the Zodiac Spear inThe Zodiac Age, but some are clearly better than others. The most expensive way is to give ten Rare Game trophies to each of the bangaa brothers at the Phon Coast. Once this has been done, the Zodiac Spear will become available for purchase for a shocking 999,999 Gil from the Shifty-Eyed Merchant in the same area. Though this may have been a suitable price in the original, the new and improved weapons available inThe Zodiac Agemake purchasing the Zodiac Spear a tad unnecessary, especially when the price is so high.
2Fine Caviar Canape - Final Fantasy 15
Much of what makesFinal Fantasy 15so relatable is how real the interactions between the main characters can feel. A great example of this can be seen whenever the party sets up camp, allowing Ignis to preparedelicious meals for everyone. The exchange is endearing, but players will likely make a habit of repeating the process when they see the buffs certain meals offer.
Ignis can learn a variety of different recipes by collecting ingredients, but some can only be discovered by purchasing a warm meal from a restaurant. In Altissia, Ignis can learn how to prepare a Fine Caviar Canape meal by spending 300,000 Gil at the Maagho restaurant. For the ridiculous 300,000 Gil,Noctis and his companionswill receive an additional 75 points of Strength and Magic, while also receiving a 50% bonus to how much EXP they receive. This might be worth the price if multiplyingFinal Fantasy 15’s EXP intake wasn’t already so easy to do, but sadly for this delicious meal, it is.

1Besaid Key - Final Fantasy 10-2
Upon reaching Besaid inFinal Fantasy 10-2, Yuna will be given the chance to buy a mystery item from the store in the village. The vendor deigns to reveal exactly what this item is, but that doesn’t stop her from attempting tosell the item to Yunafor a staggering 900,000 Gil. At this point in the game, however, players will be lucky to have more than 5,000 Gil, so purchasing this item seems impossible.
MostFinal Fantasy 10-2players will pass on purchasing the mystery item, which turns out to be a wise choice in Chapter 3, where Yuna can obtain the item for free by rescuing the item’s owner from the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. The item in question is then revealed to be the Besaid Key, a pretty ordinary item that can be used to unlock the chest in the Besaid Temple. Inside lies a Search Sphere, an item needed to locate the numbered spheres spread throughout Besaid, each of which must be found to unlock the Raging Giant Garment Grid. Though this Garment Grid has its uses, it is in no way worth 900,000 Gil.
