FIFA 23launched with all of the regular modes that players have come to expect: Career Mode, Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs, and others. It was also meant to launch with an online career mode before EA canceled the feature shortly before release.

While players have made their own OCMs across Discord servers, the community was naturally annoyed at the lack of implementation of an OCM on the game itself. There are many reasons whyFIFAplayers want an online career mode, and it’s not just for thebest-hidden gem players.
8Sense Of Community
Online career modes offer players a sense of community. There’s a further level of involvement between players than they’d get from simply facing off against each other online. When playing across the Ultimate Team and Online Seasons game modes, players will have a match with an opponent before exiting out of the lobby, never to see each other again.
Online career modes, particularly if they implemented chatting capability, would allow players to feel part of a community while fighting to win the league. There can be friends and enemies made, adding to the overall league experience.
7Greater Competition
Players that are interested in participating in an online career mode usually have a higher skill level than players found on Online Seasons or even the higher divisions on Ultimate Team. These are the types of players who have learned all theUltimate Team game mode tipsand executed them perfectly, ascending to newFIFAskill heights.
For some players, seeking out greater competition is just part of theFIFAexperience and online career modes offer that.
6Longevity
With online career modes, games are usually staggered across different match weeks, just like with real-life soccer leagues. This gives players a longer experience which makes results feel more special. It also allowsplayers with the highest potentialto actually have their potential actualized.

When players play on Online Seasons or Ultimate Team, they join a lobby play a game, and then never see the player again.
5Variety Of Tournaments
In Online Seasons, players battle it out across ten divisions, but they’re fairly removed from each other. A player will play online, gaining three points for a win, one for a draw, and none for a loss. There is a threshold for promotion and relegation across each division.
But in an online career mode, there are different competitions: A-league and domestic cups such as the FA Cup, or Trophee le Blanc, as well as European competitions such as the Champions and Europa League.
With Ultimate Team, players have knockout championships as well as the typical league format for Rivals divisions, but the players are still fairly removed from each other. This variety of tournaments plays further into the feel of a player having a season and offers a more lifelike footballing experience. Players have a greater sense of who has a “lucky bracket” and the like, contributing to the league experience.
4Real-Time Updates
There are more changes and updates to a career mode type of competition, especially an online one. Player transfers, new transfer budgets, managers switching teams, and player upgrades—these are just a few examples of the real-time updates players can expect in an online career mode.
The real-time updates offer players much more connection to their experience as well as being a more active one overall. Just like with Ultimate Team, thebest La Liga team buildone day may not be the best on the next update. This dynamic invites more participation from players, adding to a more whole experience.
3Greater Customization
Across any game mode and even offline career mode, players can customize their formation, player instructions, and custom tactics. That said, most of the time people want greater customization than this, such as the stadium, team crest, and team kit. By taking on one of the morechallenging teams to start Career Mode with, the least they want is to be able to customize the team. This isn’t often the case.

Offline career modes are bound by licensing issues that EA has made with the clubs in real life. With online career modes that are officially licensed this could be a different story if the companies agree to different terms. On an unofficial online career mode, greater customization is a given, as they are not bound by licensing issues that official career modes would face.
2More Realistic Transfer Negotiations
Transfer negotiations have long been laughed at by theFIFAcommunity on career modes. No matter how many new titles there are, EA can’t seem to get the logic of transfers between non-player-controlled teams right. They either don’t make sense, with players being signed and subsequently playing in the wrong position all season. Or, they are just completely unlikely based on the real-life positions of a team and player.
In an online career mode, this gives the chance for more realistic transfer negotiations as users have a better idea over transfers that would be realistic or not. Players can try to secure bargains, such as signing thebest young players with high potential, or selling their fodder to other players for way over value.
1More Variety In Opponents
In an offline career mode, there is little variety in opponents. The formations and tactics may differ, but the AI plays similarly depending on its difficulty level (Professional, World Class, etc).
In an online career mode, the variety of difficulty in opponents will differ. So long as the matchmaking and ELO identifying technology isn’t strict, as with some popular skill-based matchmaking games, then players can expect no two opponents to play the same. Having an idea of thebestFIFA 23formationsto use is a great first step in identifying what opponents are using and why they could be winning.
