TheEpic Games Storehas quickly become one of the main places PC gamers go to when looking to purchase the latest titles. While the online platform has received criticism over the years since its launch, and continues to face issues even today withachievement syncing problems in the Epic Storebecoming annoyance for players, its success is still clear to see.
Often, new and exciting titles like therecently releasedSifuare becoming available on the Epic Games Store before they are available on Valve’s rival platform Steam. However, for some Epic’s store hasn’t quite caught up with the Steam store, and could do with implementing a few features to help the Epic Games Store truly become a Steam alternative, rather than something PC gamers install alongside the swaths of other launchers on their desktops. One such feature currently missing from the Epic Games Store is gifts.

One user though, has taken to Reddit with their idea of what gifts in theEpic Games Storecould look like. In a short video, the user has gone beyond editing a screenshot of the store page and adding a gifts button. Instead, the user shows the gifts button sharing space with the add to cart button in the Epic store’s purchasing tab. From there, the user searches through their friends list to find the recipient for their gift, before typing in a message and signing the gift. From there, the game is sent off to the recipient.
While there’s nothing overtly flashy in the way the user has created a concept for the way the Epic Games Store could implement gifting, the idea of giving a game as a gift is not a complex one, and so a simple solution is all that’s needed. Some viewers of the Reddit post had some concerns with the concept though, such as how Epic could lose money by having people use the coupons available inEpic Game Store salesto discount gifted games. However, this problem could be simply fixed by not allowing coupons to be used in gifted purchases.
Considering the large sales that both Steam and Epic consistently have on their platforms, it seems strange that one has the ability for users to send gifts while the other doesn’t, as store sales seem the perfect time to buy a friend a game they’ve had on their wishlist for a while. However, there is the argument that Epic gifts users a game every week withits free weekly gamethat has brought so much attention to the platform.
