As the latest entry of extremely difficult RPGs set in a fantasy world,Elden Ringhas not only proved incredibly popular with previous fans of FromSoftware’s Soulsborne RPGs, the game has attracted new fans to the genre. As a fresh, new addition to the FromSoftware line-up,Elden Ringhas also gained interest from newcomers due to the involvement offantasy author George R.R. Martin, who helped with the game’s world building.

Complete with new bosses, horse riding mechanics, and a new story for players to explore,Elden Ringstill has many of thetropes and mechanics a Soulsborne fan would be used to, such as a character creator, different builds, and difficult combat that leads to multiple, sometimes infuriating deaths. While it’s more likely that a player will die to a boss, enemy, or some kind of trap, falling can also be one of the many ways a Tarnished can meet their unfortunate end. With some areas that can result in instant death should a player fall too far, watching a character’s feet can be as important as watching their surroundings inElden Ring.
