AnElden Ringplayer scored themselves the easiest boss fight victory of their lives when the Regal Ancestor Spirit boss just up and vanished. The boss was there, disappeared, then died, before the fight could even truly begin. It’s moments like these that make the sometimes frustrating experience that isElden Ringjust a little easier to deal with.

FromSoftware games are usually stable. They don’t tend to suffer from the same degree of wild glitches as some other well-known games out there, but they still have their issues.Glitches inElden Ringcome in a variety of shapes and sizes, though they can sometimes be to the benefit of the player.

That’s exactly what happened when Reddit user UncleMarionumberone entered the boss arena to fight the Regal Ancestor Spirit. The boss, which looks like a spectral moose carcass, is usually supposed to release a pained cry before it collapses to the floor and vanishes. What normally follows is its rebirth somewhere else in the arena after it sacrifices and reemerges from one of the spectral animals lingering around, but that didn’t happen. The result was even betterthan one-shotting a boss. It was a no-shot kill.

It doesn’t appear that the enemy AI was sure what it wanted to do. When the spirit takes to the air, it usually triple-jumps before crashing down with a dive attack. Instead, it lazily clomps around the air, softly comes back down, screams then vanishes. After around 20 seconds without reappearing, its health bar goes from max to empty. Legend Felled, Remembrance collected, andboss killed by a fortuitous glitch.

The Regal Ancestor Spirit can be fought comparatively early on inElden Ringconsidering how long the game is. It’s also one of the most hauntingly beautiful bosses FromSoft has designed. It’s right up there with the Moonlight Butterfly boss inDark Souls. The arena has a magical spookiness to it. The spirit’s design is eerily majestic. The score is gorgeous, almost like some of the atmospheric pieces heard while exploringSkyrim’s open world. All things considered, the Regal Ancestor Spirit is one ofElden Ring’s most memorable boss fights. It’s a shame, but also hilarious, that all that beauty and majesty was squandered with an anticlimactic glitch.

Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
