The opening show for Gamescom took place on August 23 and revealed a bunch of upcoming titles from AAA and independent studios, as well as guest appearances from industry figures.Horror fans would have been particularly interested in Gamescom, at least the Opening Night Live event, as games such asThe Callisto Protocolhad new trailers shown, and the likes ofDead Island 2and even an adaptation ofKiller Klowns from Outer Spacewere revealed. On top of that, there was some good news forDying Light 2: Stay Humanfans.
During the two-hour show, a trailer revealed the first story expansion forDying Light 2. Called “Bloody Ties,” the video shows it to be a combat arena, in which the player must battle it out against others for supremacy. There was a certain carnivalesque vibe about it, though obviously with a lot more violence and gore. The announcer states that this will be a slight departure from Aiden’s need to fight for survival, and instead he will be going head-to-head with others “for glory.” The DLC is due out on October 13.

On top of this, there’s also been anew update forDying Light 2. This one is said to make some improvements to the graphics, as well as fix some issues with DX12, specifically the memory leaks. There have also been some tweaks to the PS5 and Xbox Series ports, and the PC version now supports AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling technology. However, it’s most likely the upcoming “Bloody Ties” expansion that many will be interested in.
Dying Light 2story DLChas been teased for some time now. The developer initiated a five-year plan to keep the sequel in tip-top shape. Since releasing in February, there have been some additional goodies and updates for the game, such as the inclusion of New Game Plus mode, photo mode, nightmare difficulty, as well as some cosmetic DLC. However, “Bloody Ties” is the first major addition, with the studio hinting a while back that fans will be surprised by it.
While the game itself did run into some problems, particularly the infamous “deathloop” bug, it’s been pretty well received overall. Along withMetro: Last LightandChernobylite,Dying Light 2is considered by many to beone of the scariest post-apocalyptic games around. Taking what people loved about the first game, which came out in 2015, the follow-up improves on the game’s parkour feature and also sets it in a bigger, more diverse wasteland.
Dying Light 2: Stay Humanis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version is scheduled for release later this year. “Bloody Ties” releases on October 13.
