One creative player has recreatedControlprotagonist Jessie Faden’s telekinetic abilities by utilizing the creative suite in Media Molecule’sDreamson PlayStation and uploaded a video showcasing the proof of concept. Whether this was inspired byRemedy’s recent announcement forControl 2is unspecified, but it stands on its own as an impressive example ofDreams’bevy of options for players with a creative idea.
When it comes to the AAA space,Controlstands out for its incredibly detailed world inspired by the SCP Foundation and blending gameplay elements from Metroidvanias with explosive third-person action that highly involves using psychic abilities alongside a transforming gun. The fascinating world design and frenetic gameplay came as a natural evolution of Remedy Entertainment’s shift towards creating games set in versions of the modern-day world with elements of supernatural horror and science fiction that began withAlan Wake.

Reddit user drinkwater200 took telekinesis, arguablythe most engaging aspect ofControl’s combat, and created a proof of concept of that element in the PlayStation 5 version ofDreams. The video uploaded on r/playstation is roughly a minute and a half long and shows a young woman running around a testing arena with some basic props before she uses telekinetic abilities to lift a table to be brought by her side to use as a projectile in a way that resembles how Jessie Faden uses her powers to pick up objects in the environment. Something to note is that while the table is picked up and dropped several times, it never gets fired so whether the feature has been implemented at all is up for debate.
Despite the video’s short length, it’s a clear demonstration of drinkwater200’s talent since the inspiration is clear while still aesthetically distinguishing itself from the source material. What remains to be seen is if drinkwater200 adds to the proof of concept with something more, expanding on the powers displayed into a more substantive experience. The project also shows that the tools used are powerful and versatile as just a few days ago, a fan ofElden RingusedDreamsto create fan artin celebration of its Game of the Year win at the 2022 Game Awards.
Seeing as how Remedy has its hands full withdevelopingAlan Wake 2andControl 2,it is unclear when the latter will release, meaning there will be a while before players get to experience how the mechanics will expand on the first game’s arsenal. Since the games share the same universe,Alan Wake 2could sate fans by expanding upon the lore of both games, giving a look into whatControl 2’s story potentially centers around. Before then, projects by creators drinkwater200 have already shown the impact the first game has had since its release.
