Doom Patrol, one of the biggest hits DC has onHBO Max,is coming back for at least a fourth season. The news came during a slew of announcements about various DC-based movies, television shows, and video games shown off during DC FanDome 2021.
Over the last few years, DC has been moving quite a few of its properties toHBO Max. Among the major hits that’s have landed on the network has beenDoom Patrol.The show, based on the comic books of the same name, brought some big-name actors like Timothy Dalton, Alan Tudyk,and Brendan Fraser. It’s also re-introduced actors like April Bowlby and Diane Guerrero, with the previously best known for her work on Netflix’sOrange Is the New Black.

The confirmation of season 4 also came paired with amid-season trailer forDoom Patrol’s third season, which might also be signaling that the season isn’t going to go in the direction the first half of the year might have hinted.Doom Patroladded what was thought to be a new big bad in the form of Michelle Gomez’s April de Mille. Otherwise known as Madame Rouge, she appeared at the group’s house driving some sort of time-traveling subterranean machine.
It seems that Gomez was chosen for the part of the time-traveling no-good-nick because she’s got some experience playing that particular role. While she’s most recently appeared in Netflix’sThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,she also was thebig bad for one season ofDr. Who. Her character was eventually revealed to be a female version of The Master, who is among the most dangerous foes The Doctor has faced in his or her long life.
While there’s still plenty of trouble Madame Rouge could get up to,the mid-season trailer ofDoom Patrolseems to show that the Sisterhood of Dada is going to be far more formidable. However, the HBO Max show has long been known to go in several different directions while starting and seemingly ending several storylines in one season.
The series has been unpredictable enough that it’s possible yet another villain or hero could make an appearance before season 3 ofDoom Patrolis all said and done. For now, there’s some unpredictability when it comes to just when the fourth season might air. While the DC FanDome announcement did confirm Season 4 is coming at some point, there was no official release date accompanying the news regarding the HBO Max series.
