Although players will have to take a hit or two in most fights during theDiablo 4campaign, minimizing these hits becomes critical to endgame success. Most world bosses have either an instant-death move or one that leaves a player with a fraction of health. Ranged players have more mobility to avoid these hits.
The tradeoff is often a decrease in damage dealt. Developers know that security is a premium inDiablo 4(just ask the hardcore gamers about that), so some of the moves might seem a bit weaker. However, the Ranged Rogue build hits as hard as any other damage dealer with a thoughtful build.

Updated on June 29, 2025 by Marc Santos:The Rogue class has seen a ton of changes during the patches leading up to Diablo 4 Season 5. Apart from the usual buffs and nerfs, that one would expect from balance passes, some passives got completely reworked, giving Rogues better access to Crowd Control effects and stat buffs related to them. This guide has been revamped to give players a solid Diablo 4 Rogue leveling build using mostly Marksmanship skills.

Precision
This build is all about Dazing enemies and spreading the Vulnerable status effect to maximize your damage. Line enemies up, pack them into a tight ball with Poison Trap and Caltrops, then slaughter all of them with a single Shadow-imbued Penetrating Shot. Forceful Arrow will also see plenty of action, but more on that in the Gear section.
The setup above requires 60 skill points, so players must be at least level 50 and havefound enough Altars of Lilith inDiablo 4to make use of it. If you don’t have enough points, prioritize getting the active skills first, then get the passive ones later.

Gems
TheTempering system inDiablo 4lets players craft their own god rolls. For this build, we’ll be stacking plenty of Lucky Hit, Critical Strike Damage, and Vulnerable Damage. Critical Strike Chance isn’t as important as the Precision passive grants guaranteed crits for Penetrating Shot. It’s a good stat to have, but it’s best not to go overboard with it.
Since Penetrating Shot has poor DPS and Energy efficiency in boss fights, we’ll be relying on Arrow Storms and Forceful Arrow for single-target damage. Like most Basic Skills, Forceful Arrow is incredibly strong when you stack effects that increase attack speed and Basic Skill damage.

Ambush
Diablo 4’sParagon systemcan be tough to figure out, but as a rule of thumb, players should focus on getting at least one Legendary Node and as many Glyph Sockets as they can while taking any suitable Rare nodes along the way. Taking the nodes and Glyphs in the table above will improve your survivability, Core Skill Damage, and overall damage against Vulnerable targets and enemies affected by Poison Trap.
Specialization
Since Penetrating Shot isn’t meant to be spammed, Combo Points is the best Specialization players can choose. It synergizes well with the build’s playstyle — fire three Forceful Arrows, then let loose a supercharged Penetrating Shot that’s guaranteed to critically strike every time. Other Specializations can work with this build, but for players who want to keep things simple, Combo Points is the way to go.
