The reason why a great number of players are particularly excited about Devolver’s shows is that they are deliberately absurd and shocking, and sometimes even outright disturbing. In fact, the one-of-a-kindDevolver Digital E3 2021 VHS tape got soldfor $1,000 in a charity event, meaning that the only precedent for a Devolver show is that it is completely unprecedented.
While Devolver’s 2022 game showcase is bound to feature a very wide array of different games, it seems like the publisher might giveCult of the Lamb, in particular, more time and attention than most other games might get. The studio’s flagship roguelite has been previously compared toHappy Tree Friendsdue to its juxtaposition of cutesy and horrific, and Devolver seems to be intrigued by the premise.
Of course,Devolver Digital is publishingReturn to Monkey Islandas well, which should make for an effective revival of one of the most influential game series of all time. It’s a reasonably safe bet thatMonkey Island, too, will be making an appearance at the studio’s 2022 showcase, though it’s unlikely that it will be as prominent asCult of the Lambseems to be.
WithSony’s investment in Devolver Digital, it’s likely that the publisher will have something truly spectacular in place for its E3 2022 replacement. Considering its track record, it’s all but impossible to come up with a good idea of what it might be, but the preview trailer featured in the official tweet may offer a hint or two, unless it’s a red herring.
