Takahiro Yokota, a producer overseeingDigimon World: Next Orderfor Nintendo Switch, responded to a fan comment inquiring about the next game in theDigimon Storyline. The comments came during Digimon Con 2024, a virtual event hosted by Bandai Namco. Yokota was part of a panel discussing the most recent games in the franchise.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of both the release ofDigimon Worldto the PlayStation and the debut of theDigimonanime.Digimon Storymade its debut in 2010 on the Nintendo DS, and has released some sequels over the years. Most recently in 2019,Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker’s Memorywas ported to PC and Switch from its original PlayStation release in 2017. Fans of theDigimon Storygames have been clamoring for an update or hint as to the release of the next entry.

Yokota could not confirm nor deny the development of a newDigimon Storygame. He was joined by Japanese voice actors Ken Ichijoji and Daisuke Motomiya, who both have starred inone or moreDigimonanimes. Yokota responded to the comment after some discussion about previous games. “We apologize for keeping fans waiting, but we ask for your patience until we’re ready to share more information.” Those were Yokota’s exact words in immediate response.

New Digimon Story Game Update

The panel and Con were held to generate excitement about the current state of Digimon, namely its 25th anniversary. Several Japanese voice actors participated as well, with the last dub of theDigimon Adventureanime released in 2023. Discussions during the panel ranged from talking about the top 10 fan-voted Digimon to mentioning obscure titles likeDigimon Racing.

Though predominantly on PlayStation for most of their publication history, mainstream games such asDigimon WorldandDigimon Storyfound their way onto the Nintendo Switch.Digimon Survive,released in 2022, is a visual novel with tactical RPG elements, and the most current game in the franchise. Fans havecompared the gameplay ofDigimon SurvivetoDigimon Story, and perhaps hoped that Digimon Con would be the place to hear an update on the latter.

Withpotential influences coming fromDigimon Survive, there is currently no telling when the game will come out, or what it will feature. However, Takahiro Yokota did not deny that there is a newDigimon Storygame in active development. Unfortunately, there is no additional information to bring at this time.
