The Wardcliff CoilCatalyst is a random reward that can occur whenever the player completes either aHeroic or Nightfall Strike. Because its appearance is entirely random, it can happen very quickly or take quite a bit of grinding to appear.

It also doesn’t matter whether the player pursues Nightfall or Heroic Strikes, as the drop rate doesn’t seem to be impacted. All that matters is successfully completing the Strike, so the player should choose whichever they’re most comfortable completing.
UpgradingThe Wardcliff CoilCatalyst
To upgradethe Wardcliff CoilCatalyst, the player will need tokill 500 enemies usingthe Wardcliff Coil.That means the final blow must be dealt with the rocket barrage, or the subsequent explosion. It also doesn’t matter if the enemy is aPVE foe or a Guardian.
Some of those kills can also be obtainedretroactively. If the player achieved any kills using Wardcliff Coil before obtainingthe Wardcliff CoilCatalyst they will count towards the 500. Be forewarned that some players have stated that not all kills are counted and it can be a bit buggy at times.

Tips For ObtainingThe Wardcliff CoilCatalyst
Because successfully completing Heroic or Nightfall Strikes is the trigger for gettingthe Wardcliff CoilCatalyst, it pays to quickly and efficiently complete these events. It can do wonders to join a fireteam that’s committed to grinding these strikes as quickly as possible.

Getting the upgrade should be relatively easy if the player usesthe Wardcliff Coilinplaces like the Shattered Throne with unlimited spawning adds. It’s also a good idea to get a feel for howthe Wardcliff CoilCatalyst impacts the projectiles, to see how forgiving aiming has now become. It’s also not a bad idea to grind for other Catalysts while upgrading or pursuingthe Wardcliff CoilCatalyst. For instance, theSunshotCatalystalso has a chance to drop during any Strike.
Advice On Using Wardcliff Coil
The Wardcliff Coilis a beast for just about any situation. It does great single target damage and can bomb a group with a decent radius. It’s still a Rocket Launcher so players will want to pair it with more precise weaponry like Linear Fusion Rifles. But it’s hard to argue withthe Wardcliff Coil’s results. Even if the player has better weapons in their arsenal it’s one of the more fun weapons to use that remains viable in just about any type of combat.
In PVP this weapon will blast apart single Guardians or groups of them. Many players are aware of the tracking ability and have learned ways to avoid the worst of the damage. Just because the weapon has locked on someone, doesn’t mean they’ll take every point of damage.

In PVE this weapon truly shines as it can bring down the toughest bosses or clear a room of ads in a hurry. Hunters equipped with something like theMask of Bakriscan raise their Arc damage even further with a few well-timed dodges.
