Destiny 2’s Season of the Splicer brought plenty of new things to do, but one of its main perks is that it features very compelling lore entries and a great overarching story that is likely nearing its conclusion. The inciting incident of this Season is that the Vex created a simulation to deprive the Last City of sunlight, thanks to the Endless Night, but the great deception is that both the Guardian and the Vanguard believed this was the Vex’s doing. Instead, this week’s Expunge mission ended with the revelation that behind the whole thing there is Quria, the Taken Vex Axis Mind, and by extension its commander:Savathun, The Witch Queen.
This has significant implications due to Savathun being the Hive God of deception, and Quria being considered a threat for a very long time now, despite the lack of actual encounters with it. However, with the fact that the Endless Night seems to be inherently tied to Quria, a showdown with the Taken Axis Mind could be imminent and likely to happen in a matter of weeks or even days. Osiris, who has been having increasingly more screen time for the past fewDestiny 2Seasons, suggested Mithrax and the Guardian capture Quria instead of destroying it, which could have serious consequences.

Savathun’s Ploy in Destiny 2, and the Confrontation With Quria
Quria’s origin traces back toThe Taken King expansion forDestiny, when Crota opened a portal to a specific region of space that was inhabited by the Vex, which built Quria to understand the Hive’s Sword-Logic philosophy. The Vex quickly adapted to the Hive’s perception of power and decided to acquire more of it within the Hive’s domain, which sparked a war between the two. War ended when Oryx was able to defeat Quria and its simulations, and the Axis Mind was Taken by the Hive King without completely depriving it of its free will, and then gifted the Vex Mind to Savathun for her to study.
Osiris likely proposed to capture the Taken Vex to a similar end, which is learning Quria’s secrets and use them to have an edge over the Vex and possibly the Hive. However, this can only happen if Guardians will actually be tasked with facing Quria at some point during the Season of the Splicer, and capturing the Axis Mind to take it to the Last City could prove both hard and extremely dangerous. The city’s population has already been infected withSavathun’s Songmost likely because of corrupted data being spread by Future War Cult’s repeaters, and Lakshmi-2 apparently heard the Song as well.

This is further complicated by this week’s lore entry, which is called “7 - Ripe.” Here, Guardians learn that Savathun herself may be walking among the people of the Last City in a human body, which she refers to as a shell of flesh. This could, in turn, lead to The Witch Queen expanding her influence over the Last City or maybe she already has and it was all part ofSavathun’s plan to plunge the city into an Endless Nightto begin with.
There are not many weekly missions left in the Path of the Splicer series for thisDestiny 2Season, and it’s likely that this confrontation will have to escalate very soon. The Eliksni could be involved, too, and aDestiny 2civil war scenariois quite plausible precisely because of Savathun’s Song and Lakshmi-2’s political views, as well as her use of Vex technology to see glimpses of the future. The puzzle pieces are finally coming together, but that may just be the beginning of a series of hardships for the Guardians and mankind to endure.
Destiny 2is now available PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
